Thanks go to CaptainFrank over on the UK forum Saabscene for combining older versions of WIS and EPC and then porting them to operating systems above Windows XP.

I have tried the various releases available across the forums and consider these to be the easiest to install and most robust to date.

Both have been tested in 32/64bit Vista/Win7/Win8/Win10, and yes, there are a few bugs that I have noticed, but more than likely, they were always there anyway!

The EPC package has now been superseded by the EPC & EAC package, and I`ve included MediaFire links for people who have trouble with MEGA. (Mediafire links to follow-AJ)

Download and run the exe file itself, extracts it to the desktop, and install it automatically following the prompts. When finished, it should appear in your program list under Saab/EPC, and then you may wish to add a shortcut, etc.

Hopefully, fellow enthusiasts will find these as useful as I do.

I will leave it for the mods to decide whether or not to sticky this post.

The thread titled "WIS and EPC for Windows 8 and 10" has downloads for these too:

http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551705

Are the ones you posted different? It would be nice to have an alternative as they can be buggy.
In a word yes I certainly would not have gone to the trouble of putting this post together unless I considered them an improvement.

Yes I noticed that myself when I downloaded and installed them again last night before posting....I hadnt uninstalled previously.

It can take a few minutes to install the WIS and it doesnt necessarily tell you when its complete.

It would also be good if it put the shortcuts in and deleted the extracted file on the desktop but hey sometimes you can be never done with this stuff!

Im sure folk can work out how to put a shortcut in or launch from the taskbar.

Having used both now since July numerous times each day probably. I have found them much better than anything I have used before.

My EPC has crashed once and when I started it again it automatically re-installed and away we went...dont know if this is a W10 thing or not...

The hanging install stalled me for a while. Then I figured it was maybe done so I went looking for it. I thought it was going to install elsewhere than where it did. So I could not find it at first when I looked for it. I created a shortcut on the desktop now, too. It has a lot of words run together, which is a little irritating, but it goes back further than the cactuz version, so, what the hey.

I will sticky this in this forum. But I am not the assigned moderator to this forum, so if that moderator does not want it stickied, he may undo it.

Hey everyone-

Thought I would weigh in on this! I had hunted around for a WIS for quite a while, trying older file dumps that would invariably fail or link to a 404 Does Not Exist... until i stumbled upon CaptainFrank's thread starting in June/July 2016. I was very excited and hopeful to see something current was being done, so I sent him a PM about a month ago. I had to use my college's internet to speed up the download times, but once it was downloaded, it has performed really well for a port to a much more modern OS (a lot better than attempting to run the old file dump on an old Windows 2000 dinosaur!).

Glad to see it has made it over here; would have asked CaptFrank to link it sooner.... but I have been on vacation for 3 weeks and have been away from the project.

Thanks everyone, and good luck!

Hello Everyone,

I`m CaptainFrank from SaabScene in the UK. I`m the creator of these packages for the WIS & EPC.

I`ll do my best to answer your questions...

1) How is different to other x64 WIS & EPC? The main answer to this is 'Completeness' (if that's actually a word?!?!?). I wanted to have 1 install that installed everything.

2) The install seems to hang for a while at the end? Yes it does but this will depend largely on the speed of your computer. The EPC and especially the WIS are quite large. The WIS is 4.8GB when installed! So to cut down on download times, I used compression. This dropped the download down to just 2.8Gb but this requires the installation to first be decompressed, then installed, then have the decompressed installation files deleted. It seems to be this last cleanup operation that takes a while on some computers.

3) I tried to make the installs as quick, hassle free and as easy as I could make them. This is why there are no 'next, next, next, finish' style prompts. It just does it's job and then finishes. This was mostly made for my own convenience.

4) As CJ spotted, the EPC seemed to have to re-install itself for some reason. Mine did this too after Windows 10 upgraded to the latest build (1607 otherwise known as the anniversary update). I suspect the W10 upgrade was the cause of your issue too CJ? I have no idea why it caused it though!

Any other issues, just let me know.

Some Issues With WIS

This new WIS has begun to manifest some interesting issues.

Two days ago I got this when attempting to open it, many, many times:

I rebooted and the issue apparently resolved.

This morning, when I tried to open it, I got the "Please wait while Windows configures Workshop Information System" so the program appears to be reinstalling itself.

So, I am uninstalling this and going back to the cactuz version, which appears to be much more stable. It does not have NG 900, but at least I don't have to reboot to use it, or go through the too long re-installation process if rebooting does not work.

I had a similar issue, where I had to reinstall the WIS, and it was showing some interesting errors. I believe that this was caused by the most recent windows 10 update. I have not had any problems with it since I reinstalled the WIS after the update.

There is a version of just the ng900 WIS (it's a different style to the more modern version). That will run under x64 bit systems including W10. The program itself is 32 bit so will run in a 64 bit environment, it's the installer package that is 16 bit and wont run. You can just extract the archived and launch the Tabman.exe file directly or you can replace the setup.exe file with a 32 bit version and install it. I tend to launch it directly since installing it caused some confusion with the newer WIS since they appear to use the same or similar shortcut names/paths.

I`m only aware of the anniversary update affecting it, I haven't seen it affected by any of the usual cumulative updates.

As an aside, I think I`ve since deleted the original project files I used to create the install! To fix anything, I`ll need to start again from sratch

On the plus side, if I ever do, I learnt some stuff creating the last one so it'll probably be better next time...

Just to make a liar out of me.....

My machine installed Cumulative update KB3194496 this morning. The WIS is fine but the EPC want to re-install.

A quick test pretty much confirms my suspitions, it's the MSI system thinking that something has changed and therefore the program must be re-installed.

Next time this happens, could you cancel the re-install, then run the program directly from the Program directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\WIS" or "C:\EPC" and let me know if it runs.

My EPC now runs fine from the EXE directly but wants to re-install if run from the MSI shortcut.

As a temporary work around, you can create your own shortcut directly from the programs directory, this will bypass the MSI check subsystem.

When I redo the package, I`ll investigate turning off the auto repair stuff, I`m fairly sure I`ve seen it before somewhere.....

Thanks for this, I am running windows 7 and I after restarting and then launching from the program menu it was doing the reinstalling thing. But if I launch directly from the C folder its works without reinstalling.

Just been looking through my Event Logs.

It looks my package isn't as clean as I thought it was....

It appears (at least from the EPC point of view) that the item being removed is the Intel Indeo 5 codec! That's ancient and was probably included by accident as the original install machine was a Windows XP system.

It looks like various Windows updates are removing it.

Next time, I`ll make sure it's not included as I`d be very surprised if it's even needed.. do the EPC & WIS even have videos????

I have error window when WIS tries to install

It saids:
Workshop Information System
An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check your network connection and click "Retry" or "Cancel" to end the install.

And below are Retry and Cancel boxes.

How I proceed?
Please make it simple for stupid, because the easiest way to distinguish screen from keyboard is an axe.
I use W10 (64bit)

EPC installed perfectly.

EPC installed fine a while back.

Tried WIS, got about 35% of the way through, and then "Free quota exceeded. Wait 2h to continue for free". :nono;

As I'm at the library using wi-fi, and plan to go home, this isn't too great. I'm also not sure how it calculates downloads per IP address. I wonder if the City of Toronto has one IP address, or each library has a different address. (I could go to another library....)

Mega does tell me I can get 50 gb free, but I suspect I'm paying for something if I do create the account. The terms and conditions are....lengthy.

Phooey, wanted to install and investigate my xenon headlight warning. Guess I'll wing it.
