Oil coming out between charge pipe and silicone pipe, is it normal?

I just realised recently there is oil coming out between the joint of the charge pipe and the silicone pipe after the intercooler.

Is it normal? Oil is leaking? Where are the possible locations? Thanks.

A small amount of oil in the charge air pipes is normal, but an excessive amount is not. Your turbo is probably leaking oil. It can leak past the seals and into the airstream if parts are worn Silicone hoses aren't generally compatible with oil, so you may want to get that fixed sooner than later. Those Samco hoses aren't cheap!

He's right you're turbo is cooled Inside by oil and it's connected to your oil pan underneath your engine once the oil starts heading up the charge pipe it's passing through the O-rings that are supposed to stop it you don't want to continue to drive it like this I'm actually doing this on my car right now I have a 2001 Saab 9-3 SE convertible I found small amounts of oil in the charge pipe as well they have the kids on E Euro parts for around $25 you just have to give him your VIN number and figure out what turbo you have for my car they have two different kits for two different turbos I haven't even figured out yet which turbo I have but I think it's pretty straightforward to just pull the turbo and fix the seals I'm guessing I have to drain out the oil first to do it but not positive good luck brother

Do you have any kind of a pointer to the o-ring kits? I have a low miles turbo that's leaking through the seals -if I could replace just the o-rings without a full CHRA replacement that would be nice.

If you have an SE, you have the HOT / Mitsu TD04. Conversely, if you have a base, you have the Garrett GT 17. If the fifth letter of the VIN is P or K, it's a HOT turbo.

The thing is this turbo is a TD04 from a 2006 9-5 when I installed it together with the king cobra pipe. I was told that the CHAR is good (by the time I put on), of course it might go bad after I installed it lol

I have put all new copper rings, gaskets, but now I remember maybe I missed the oil return o-ring..

That is just a gasket set for fitting the turbo, none of those O-rings/seals will stop a turbo that is leaking oil. One o-ring is for fitting the oil drain pipe to the block (not the turbo) and the other is for sealing the intake pipe to the compressor housing (for air purposes not oil). All the washers are for sealing the banjo fittings/bolts.

The return line is sealed at the engine block with that o-ring, its has a flange and is sealed with a gasket at the turbo side. But when people say your turbo is leaking oil, it normally isn't externally from a gasket/seal washer, it is an internal seal that is leaking and then allowing oil into either the exhaust system or the intake system.

Yes that is the right kit, be aware that your turbo will need to be disassembled to install that kit (the main oil seals are in the top left corner of the pic). Unless you are careful and take precautions you will need to send the turbo out to be rebalanced after installing the kit.

Jakejm79 thanks again I had no idea how much was involved. I have never touched a turbo in the 25 years I've been working on cars. Without your help I feel I would have really messed this up. Thank you for all the information it's unbelievably informative. I now believe with the guy that you gave I'll be able to do this turbo correctly without having to have it balanced and put it in myself. I had one more question for you. I taken apart all the hoses to the intercooler and the charge pipe and clean them out there was quite a bit of oil sitting in the bottom of one of the intercooler . was shocked how much. Should I flush out the intercooler some how to get whatever oil got stuck in there out. I've done the radiator on this car because it broke inside and mixed fluids and with my tranny fluid. Now I'm in the process of swapping out my tranny which was destroyed after that incident. So I'm pretty sure I have to pull the bumper which is simple to get at that intercooler but I'm thinking it needs to come out and be rinsed well. Is this kit worth the extra money. The first kit I put the link to it's around $50 and claims to be made by Saab although it doesn't seem to stand up to that claim. This one is an official Mitsubishi kit far as I can tell and I'm thinking this is definitely the way to go but if I don't need to spend this much if the other kit is just as good please let me know. Did Saab actually make a kit that anyone knows of. Thanks for any help.

Ya the gas sounds like a great way to easily clean it and I'm going to grab the Mitsubishi kit I figure can't go wrong there .they made the turbo .thanks again really appreciate your time and effort.hopefully when I get the car back together ill get a little driving in before the next repair session gets underway.loving my car is like loving the wrong woman.its painful.someone abused her badly before I got her and it's been an uphill battle to keep her in good shape.If I didn't love the car so much I would have walked away long ago .happy motoring.RonR.
