As the title says, the drviers side floor mat stopper is missing and I thought I could live with it but it is such a nuisance. Can I just epoxy a rubber stopper on the floor? How was the original in there in the first place?

I bought the Saab rubber mats for the 9000 and I seem to recall they came with screw-in plastic studs. You make a small pilot hole and in it goes. There's enough insulation foam below to take the screw. They might be available generically?
I don't know how the original 9-3 studs are fixed to the carpet. I don't think gluing a stud to the carpet would last long. It would surely need the reinforcement of a 2 inch disc, ideally below.
The 9-3's carpet studs are in two pieces. I bought several to use in our other cars about 10 years ago because I liked them so much. There's a metal bracket that goes underneath the carpet and pokes up through it, and then a plastic cap that presses onto the top of the metal piece.
The driver's mat needs two, and the passenger's mat needs one, so that's where they're getting three of each. If you're missing both pegs for the driver's mat, then get two of each.
I just registered to say thanks for this thread; bought a 2007 Saab 93 Convertible in August and broke the two driver side carpet retainers within the first week - it soon becomes very annoying when the mat starts to slip around.
