cold air intake

Pick up a K&N drop in filter for $35. Then, take off the front bumper cover and remove the "snorkel" that goes from under the airbox to front by the bumper cover. You'll get the sound you want and it spools up much faster.
If I were to go for a Stage 2 (say BCB as example) directly from stock right now since their Stg 2 is only $25 more than Stg 1, should I do the airflow mod before or after ?

I removed my snorkel and I can hear the turbo blow off pretty decently. It's much tamer compared to an intake, but its a dece sound. You can hear it much more with the windows down too.
The snorkel is just the piece from the airbox down to the bumper, no ?

I agree with this actually, at least for the 2.8. That engine gets HOT. The stock design seems to be the best setup for cool air.
So for a 2.0T (presumably quite a bit cooler than the 2.8T), a K&N drop-in in the stock airbox would accommodate a BCB Stg 2 ?
