No problems at all, they really aren't necessary. It will take you 2 minutes to take them off.

I am so with you Slob. Those things drive me crazy. I think the one on my wife's Saab was knocked off, cuz' it just dis-appeared one day. No problems yet.

I will be leaving mine on...As you say they are there to stop mud being sprayed into the rear suspension mounts and I'm not taking any chances.

I recently purchased a 1994 900s and did notice the centre mudflap. However, I only have one (passenger side). Is there supposed to be two (ie. one on the driver's side as well??)?

Yes gobdob there is supposed to be one each side, I had to replace my nearside one recently, they're actually called a baffle, tho I prefer dive break.

SAAB actually call them Splash guards and I've now removed both of mine as they were scrapping everything I drove over that wasn't level with the road after I lowered the car.

The first thing I did to my gm900 was to remove the anoying mudflaps..Thay scraped in everything before the car was even lowered :evil:

Both mine are gone on my 98. One was missing when I bought the car and the other came off somewhere.

My 94 still has both.

I'm sure they serve a purpose (not). Mud really doesn't splash THAT FAR under your car from the front wheel.

 

They're rudders. When you turn left or right quickly, the flaps move up and down accordingly to provide increased or reduced drag. The reduced drag allows for the air to flow easier underneath one side of the car. Combined with the increased drag on the opposite side of the car, allows the car to better negotiate the corner.

This is taught in Saab Flight/Driving school.

I had this confirmed last night at the SOC of Canada meeting ...

One unknown fact about Canada is that our Canadian armed forces (the Air Force in particular) are backed up by all of the NG900 owners.
They install a special interface in the car before delivery that will let the driver know of any help required to cover our airspace!
And given the fuel efficiency of these cars, we've got things covered pretty well!

I would think twice about removing those "mud flaps" ... you just never know when they might come in handy!
