Hello everyone.Im new to this forum so im sorry if a question like this has come up in the past.My car is a 9-3 sport saloon 2006 model and the problem i have is that the drivers side mirror doesnt fold in automatically. Its a left hand drive car.The passenger side mirror folds fine so i dont think is a fuse. The mirror hasnt been hit or damaged so dont think is mechanical damage.Any ideas wuld be welcome. Thanks for your time guys and glad to be a member

you say, the drivers side mirror doesn't fold in automatically. and by pressing the switches either?.
-there is a button to switch from one mirror to the other for function.

if not, you must see if there is a directional engine (two motors) failure in the mirror or a wiring harness terminal fails contact.

more info.....

I found this on another board. Maybe it can help you:

On my side I will wait that that temperature goes up a little because I have to work on my car outside and it's pretty cold out there here in Montreal.

Thanks for the reply. The direction switch from left to right mirror is for the four direction button that controls the left and right and up and down movement. There is also a separate button that folds the two mirrors inside. When i press that only the passenger side doesnt fold and that happened a couple of years after i bought the car from new.it used to fold both.Im not sure if they run on different fuses or how to get access behind the mirror to see whether any current comes when i press the button.Ill have a look on the thread u provided thanks again!!!

yes there is a button.I dont know if its extra on some cars but mine has one.Its on the drivers side where the controlls for the electric mirrors are. There is a four direction button.A switch for left and right mirror and a folding button. When i press that one mirror doesnt fold anymore.Thats why i asked if thats common and any identification of the problem.

I have the same setup and living in France mine is left hand drive. I'll do some checking but don't start opening the mirror until sure what the problem is .. it's a pain in there. The motors for the 4 way adjustment are completely independant to those that close in the mirrors.

Yes mine has this feature too. I suspect the folding motor is inside the mirror housing. As a first start (once David has confirmed) at tracing the problem I'd remove the mirror glass and see if there's another motor tucked away behind the mirror adjustment motor assembly.

Can you fold the offending mirror by hand by the way? This would prove that the folding mechanism isn't seized.

I would think that if the motor is broken (which I suspect is the most likely cause) then it'll only be available as a complete mirror assembly (with the power fold option).

Hey JBob the mirror does fold by hand so its not seized. If its a motor problem im probably going to leave it as it is i dont think its worth the money if i have to buy a complete mirror. Its a shame really but hopefully its something simpler the car hasnt covered a lot of kilometers and its been keept in a closed garage so it hasnt seen any bad wheather.

aerojon thanks for the info but i have already tried that with no luck. I dont think is a fuse either as the other mirror works i dont think saab would have separate fuses for this application but havent checked as i dont where the fuse controling that function is located and saab have a lot!!!

Can't find where the motor is ... I cant open my WIS..

But don't start taking the mirror out because the small (up/down) motor is a real pita .. and easy to break. I'd say live with it until you are in a dealer for other business and then ask .

Cheers.
