Hi

I am a new owner of the 2007 Saab 9-3 sedan. Love the car btw...
I have a question on the actual fuel consumption display.

2 part question:

- why does it show the average consumption not the real time? Not sure how it works but it shows the average for some time/distance period. Can I change to the realtime display?

-When I bought it a week ago, I drove it for a few days and it showed around 10 liters/100kms (I live in Canada). I did the reset and it went automaticaly to 45l / 100kms and then steady was going down to what it is around 16l / 100kms now - which is pretty much (city driving). Why does it go so high after resetting the display? Is that some kind of default?

Thanx for any input

ps. What kind of fuel consumption you guys get? What is a good number?

It's a little bit inaccurate but if you can get used to it, it gives a decent recording. The total that reads after a few days shows the average L/100KM. If you had previously been doing highway driving, it should give you a pretty low reading of around 7-.7.8 L/100KM. A mix of highway driving and city driving will give you that large number. Go to the setting and hold the clear button for a few seconds and it'll start recording your average mileage again, do it when you first begin driving in the city and by the time you've been going for a little while, you'll have a recording. You just have to clear it each time to get a display of actual present mileage.

Is your car an auto or manual?
Mine is manual and in city traffic I get around 12.5lt/100Km by driving decently and normally. On the highway with cruise control and 100Km/h I get around 7.1Km/100Km.

When I reset the display, it takes around 8-10Km before I get a more accurate reading.
Immediately after the reset it always shows peculiar readings, e.g. when I drive out of my underground parking lot it shows 99lt/100Km !!!
Quirky Saab!

Mine is automatic, 4 cylinders, turbo...

Thanx for the responses. After resetting it about 4 days ago finally it sort of stabilized yesterday at 16l/100kms, which is quite a lot (only city driving). Will try it manually next time. Fill it all the way up, drive for a 100kms then refill it again. Will compare it to the computer.

The Saab systems are "quirky", that is they f'ing suck.

My old 1998 Volvo has better, easy to read, real time and average numbers.

Saab? Yeah and for the small tank and poor mileage the yellow does not come on until the DTE is last moment. I suspect the gauge is a bit late in reading too because I often, often, often check on the ride home to see if I need gas. Next time I start the car it is low down and the light comes on.

The old Volvo is AWD and heavy but got 23, this thing is "more nimble" but can only do 19 with less weight, at least the Volvo has a large tank and gets about 400 miles. This Saab probably strains at the SAE mandated figure of 300.
