Air Bag CEL- 2003 Aero sedan

Am getting an airbag warning light intermittently on a 2003 95 Aero. I did clean the contacts on the impact sensors behind the grille, but that did not help.

today I was driving the car and noticed that if I leaned on the horn the air bag light would come on and stay on for 10 to 15 second and then reset.

I am wondering if it is a bad ground that is shared by the horn or maybe the horn puts a load on the circuit and triggers the error light.

Any one have any experience with this?

When my battery was on the way out, the airbag light stayed on a couple of extra seconds on start. The problem went away with a new battery. The extra load from the horn seems like it could add to the load and trigger it.

I will look at that. I have a computer tester that will tell me how much is left in this battery.

I had this after a slight bump/accident

The airbag light would go on, reset and then go off at what seemed random interval. It was one of the sensors was bad.

Someone with a Tech II can tell you which one it is.

It sounds like it might be the clock spring coil in your steering wheel. The horn and driver airbag wiring go through that.

When the module detects a fault it will turn the light on for a minimum of ten seconds or however long the fault lasts, whichever is greater
