Hello everyone.

I have 2 1998 9-3’s:
  • a 5 door (without heated seats),
  • a convertible (with heated seats)

I used the 5 door as my daily driver a few years ago.
I bought the convertible maybe 2 years after.

Both cars are SE version and come with regular shape leather seats (no Aero).

There is a notable difference in terms of comfort. The 5 door seems to have way more « cushion » if that makes sense ?
I even replaced my convertible original front seats as they were in average shape, with some nicer ones but I still find the same difference in comfort. The convertible seats are more stiff / firm ??

Has anyone noticed this as well ? Cant seem to find anything on the internet about it ? Could it be because of the heated seat system/plate ?

If it’s a known fact, I’m almost ready to get rid of the heated seats for regular ones in the convertible, as I mostly use it in warm weather anyways. I only drive the 5 door maybe once a year and everytime I seat in it, I’m always amazed at how comfortable it is.

thanks!

I have a 2000 OG9-3 Aero 5dr.
It has leather seats and the front ones are heated.
Yes - I find them very comfortable, and I've done long journey's in them ie 8+ hours of driving.
I think in 2001 the shape of the seats (Aero/SE trim) changed slightly to a wedge shape.
Mine also has a map pocket in the front - I think that may be standard.

How often will you need the heated seats?
Remember - exercise caution with the seat removal, check the WIS for info.

I don't think there are any structural differences besides the heating pad itself. Perhaps one set is just more worn than the others in terms of how the cushions fit you?

I've always found Saab leather/heated seats to be the most comfortable of all the cars I've driven more than an hour or so. Most car seats are OK until you're sitting for an hour... then they start to give you the "I need to adjust my position" feeling. Saabs are still good hours later.

Viggen seats are more comfortable than the regular Saab seats, which is saying something.
