I have an 04 9-3 and I notice sometimes, not always, the drivers and passengers mirrors tilt down when I get back in the car. Its like they tilt down at night or something and in the morning my mirrors are looking at the wheels! Anyone else have this happen?

Here's a test: set your mirrors as normal and then push a memory setting. If the mirrors move down in any of the three settings, then you are likely inadvertently pressing one of the settings when you enter or exit the car. All it takes is a minor brush of the button to activate the setting.

If you don't really use the memory settings, the best thing to do would be to save your normal seating and mirror adjustments in all three settings. That way if you do brush one of the buttons, you'll never know.

the only mirrors i know of that do that, do it every time you put a car in reverse. i don't think saab has that, but i have accidentally hit the memory buttons before. lol. it sucks to, because i bought mine used from a weeble wobble...I have to stand outside the car feeling silly for about 5 mins while the seat slides back. i really need to set mine...stinkin' havin' legs...mumble grumble...

some cars you have to use them. I was in a brand new Ford Edge I think it was. Everytime I turned off the car, left and came back in, and startedit, the mirrors were pointing at the ground. Once you set memory 1, the mirrors will not move down. give it a try.

I don't know if this was cut in later years, but my '03 has a small button below the mirror control that will tilt the mirror down to aid in parking, and it will resume the normal position when you take the transmission out of reverse.

I thought this for a moment as well but I think he said that both mirrors tilt down. I'm guessing that he may be slightly hitting the memory key when entering or exiting. I sometimes do it, its just a bad place for the buttons. Either that or perhaps the memory seat switch is acting up.

your right. but it also says that it is just the pass. mirror not the drivers. Which is how mine is. I assume ours all work the same don't they? Unless something in that switch is going bad. Other part about that setting that I've found is if you enable it and the mirror is pointing down as soon as the car is shut off the mirror goes back to its intended position not down.

it's on page 134 of the manual. if you start going forward they should come back up to the normal spot.

It's funny - I was ready to call bullslip on this. How could the seat memory be related to a mirror?

Was having the same issue of the mirror sometimes dropping down, usually I noticed it after I had disconnected the battery, and thought it was related to that.
After reading this, tho, I had it happen again. Pressed the memory, and viola! Came right back up to its proper postition!!

You guys are great.

I think my mirror is a phantom. I've experienced it a few times myself.

I know it's not the memory seat because I have number 1 set for myself and when I push that, it goes in a different direction that isn't optimized for me.

I just deal with it and readjust.

(and yes, I lift my *** over the memory buttons so I don't brush against them)

Well I've set all 3 buttons to the same setting, nothing so far, but I haven't driven it that much lately. I have also started using the reversing mirror tilt function, handy I guess. It still would not explain why my drivers side mirror moved. Either way nothing moved so far, and oh well if it does. It's not that big of a deal. Thanks for all who responded.

Now you guys have me confused (not very hard to do).

With my '05 9-3 I've only ever noticed the passenger mirror pointing down, as when I use the button underneath the mirror controls.

Is there a way to make the drivers side go down also? Would be nice to have both mirrors pointing down sometimes when in reverse...

No, people are discussing two different issues. OP had an issue with both mirrors tilting down indicating to me that it is a memory seating issue. Others began to discuss the reverse tilt-down feature (the button on the mirror control) that only controls the curb-side (passenger side) mirror.

You may be able to make your own reverse tilt-down that would lower both mirrors by programming a memory seat position with both your mirrors saved in the down position. For example, 'memory seat #1' could be your normal driving settings and 'memory seat #2' could be the same seat settings with both mirrors pointed down. The only disadvantage is that the mirrors would not automatically raise back to the normal position; you would need to press 'memory seat #1' again to get the mirrors to go back to their normal position. This probably is a minor inconvenience because it's probably not too often that you need both mirrors pointed down (maybe only when parallel parking on a one-way street or backing into a very tight spot) - then rest of the time you could use the normal tilt-down feature.

The button under the mirror controls is only used for Pass. side mirror. Nothing else. It can't be used for the drivers side mirror at all I don't even think its a tech II option. In my car I use to memory seat settings, 1. my seat and mirrors the way i like them. 2. seat the same mirrorS pointing down, I use this function when I'm driving at night and peoples lights are shinning in my eyes.(yes i move the mirrors up when i change lanes so no one give me a crock on how unsafe this is. it works perfect)

Exactly. I have been having this exact same issue for the last two weeks and it is driving me CRAZY. I removed the battery from the car to jump start a motorcycle and once I put it back in, the stupid mirrors have been possessed. It is a totally inconsistent issue. Half the time you get in and the mirrors are right where the memory setting is. The other half the time, both mirrors are pointing down and at the doors. You press the memory button and they go right back to where they're supposed to go.

I've set all three memory positions the same just to rule that out and the dealer thinks I'm nuts. It keeps coming back to removing the battery from the car. Are there any known consequences of doing that?

I had an issue with my 05 Saab 9-3 Vert. Everytime I went to change my mirron the windows would only move down. Occasionally when I was driving if I hit a bump it would move the mirror down.

They had to replace the control by the driverside window. After that it worked just fine. I believe the round control wasn't sitting right so it was moving my mirrors for me.

Hope this helped.

I've had my car 4 days now and this is the one issue I have noticed. I'll bring it up to the dealer when I go in for my plates in a few weeks.
Happens maybe once every four drives. I've not noticed when it moves but it's always the same movement - Down and to the right. Not all the way but enough to be noticeable.

I press memory 1 while driving, and it quickly moves to the correct spot.
I just need to identify when the move happens as you know this is the sort of thing dealers will never be able to replicate.

I haven't had this happen in several days after I set all three memory settings to the same thing. I'm basically waiting to see how long it will continue like this? It could be some quirk of the body ECU that after losing power all the memory settings need to be reprogrammed or funky stuff will result.

I have the same problem with my converible and I'm convinced that it's a combination of big butts and big bolsters. My 2004 Arc never had this problem, but the Aero seats I have now have much bigger bolsters and I can hear a little beep sometimes as I'm swinging my legs around to get out of the car.

I was planning to bring it up to my dealer when I went back to get my plates but as I was passing them I stopped in today. They did agree to have a look but it was an hour wait so I agreed to make an appointment and go back.

I told the service advisor about it and he replied with "It's very common in cars with memory seats for people to catch the buttons on the way out or in". I quickly told him this was not part of the equation as I have been making a major effort to stay away from the buttons.

Up until today I have only noticed it when returning to the car after being turned off. Today was the first time I got out, did something with the car running, got in, and it had changed.

Position 1 and Position 3 are set the same.
Position 2 is my wife's setting and this is where the drivers mirror is moving to (I think)

Now I will try putting my wife's setting as 3 and mine as 1 and 2.
If that makes no difference I will set all 3 to my setting.

Lets see if that fixes it!

Of course that's what he said ;)

Hitting the buttons is definitely not what's going on. I'm not a terribly big guy. I can look down and see the buttons clearly while sitting in the seat and they're nowhere near me or the seat cushion. I have a 33" waist and I fit very comfortably within the two bolsters.

Not to mention, if hitting the buttons were an issue, how could this have never happened in the 14 months I owned he car prior to taking out the battery? Amazingly, after that it started happening 50% of the time.

well i have mine at the dealer right now for some bad window, alarm, and power mirror problems...mine will go from here to there..while driving...and will not work with the control switch..matter of fact..when its set to driver side..and you try to move it...the pass side moves..but not in the direction you are telling it to go!! the technician at the dealer said the mirror controls run throught the door control modue (aka, the power window switches) and he would take a look at it..i said..."take a look at it?, i already did that..i brought it to you to fix it"...hope he has a sense of humor
