Here's a P0340 stumper

So, a while ago (over a month) I had one instance of a flashing CEL which points to a misfire/DIC. Only happened the once and only for a couple of seconds under a good amount of boost. Never happened again.

Last week, CEL came on and P0340 code was there (ordered a replacement DIC which just arrived today).

Start the car yesterday to come to work and POOF! No CEL. Car runs fine, no hesitation, boosts like normal, idles smoothly (well, as smoothly as a 4 banger will allow).

Is this a glitch in The Matrix? Has anyone else had this happen? I always thought that if a P03XX code came up which was DIC related, the DIC won't just randomly fix itself, neither would plugs as far as I know. Is there any related sensor that could have glitched and somehow re-trained itself?

I've searched high and low for a similar incident and have so far come up short. So I humbly ask the Gurus of Saabville to help me understand the witchcraft being brewed under my hood.

The P0340 (camshaft position sensor - malfunction) can be caused by bad plugs, bad wiring (the DIC connector on the wiring harness can get flaky, from experience), bad grounds (the grounds near the thermostat on the head and intake manifold), a bad DIC or (less likely) a bad ECU.

The WIS has a pretty good fault-tree for sorting this.

Mine is definitely the DIC. On my way to work today, I went to pass someone and the car started to sputter and the CEL started flashing. The idle is lumpy now too. Going to swap out the DIC's during my lunch this evening.
