86' wheel adapters

So i was looking into adapters for my 86' 900T, and i came across a website called "RoadKill Customs" who are i guess notorious for their spacers/adapters. They mention in the description they use 6061-T6 Billet Military-Grade Aircraft Aluminum for their adapters, and make them custom, they take the centerbore into consideration too.

Website - http://www.roadkillenterprises.com/4-lug-to-4-lug-wheel-adapter-4-x-114-3-to-4-x-108-wheel-bolt-pattern/

Anyways, the adapter i'm interested in is the 4x114.3 to 4x108, which would (as im hoping) give me the option of a wider variety of wheels to choose from, without doing the full swap with post 88 parts.

i'm interested to hear feedback, thanks!

4x114.3 has more options for wheels, no doubt about it, but you are stuck with the crappy brakes.

I'm swapping my 85 over right now to 88+ stuff, but I scored a set of 98 CSE super aero's with the exposed lugs for cheap. In all honestly, there are very few aftermarket wheels that get me excited and actually look halfway decent on a SAAB.

You have to be careful with adapters, because most are 1" thick, and will push you wheels way out, and then you may run into issues with rubbing...

I have an 86 SPG, and had a 90 900t - i have NO idea where you guys keep coming up with the "pre-88 brakes are crap" thing.

I never noticed anything but the slightest difference in stopping power of the newer brakes.

Just seems like a lot of work to switch out to post-86 style, with extremely minimal gain.

It seems like there wouldn't be much difference, but there is. The 86' uses the handbrake to the front wheels, unlike the post 88' which uses the rear wheels. The calipers were uprated, rotors and pads are different. The gain would be a larger variety of wheels mostly.

For those who say there are wheels that fit the 86 and older, you are wrong. As much as the bolt pattern may fit the description of the wheel, it does not mean it fits correctly. The only real wheels that fit, were factory options such as older aeros, ronal sport 8 spoke, etc.

im just wrapping up my 87-90 brake swap on my spg. the biggest issue for me is swapping the handbrake from the front to the rear. the rotors are the same besides the bolt and hub patternt, but the pads have like 30-40% more surface area than the 87 brakes. im sure this wont be a dramastic change, but should and WOULD result in shorter stopping distances. especially since i have new lines, calipers, ceramic pads, and slotten rotors. this will be a HUGE improvement. the only reason i did this swap though was for my 16" 3 spokes but im glad its out of the way.

I swapped my brakes to 88+ stuff because my 85 ones needed rebuilding. Yes just rebuilding the calipers would have been easier, but I would have had to do it again probably once a year. And even servicing the brakes with the older stuff is a much bigger task. The 88+ stuff is much easier to work on, the parts are more readily available, and you always have the option to upgrade to 9000 calipers. And oh yeah, it allows me to run some sweet 16" super aero's with exposed lugs :D
