Greetings,

First post here! I just started my 60,000 mile checklist and a couple questions.
-My brake fluid has been checking out fine @ 48K and replaced front and rear brakes at 58K so did a flush even though fluid was ok. I used ATE TYP200 dot 4 fluid.
-Coolant also was perfect, but flushed regardless. Used AC Delco long life coolant and did not change thermostat
-belts and pulleys looked fine, shocks changed at 40,000
-Sparked plugs were starting to misfire a bit and swapped new ones out. NGK platinum plugs
-changed cabin filter and new KN air filter
-change oil, filter, o ring, and gasket with Total energy GM-LL-A-025 oil
QUESTION: I need to change the trans fluid and wondering if/what type of gasket is behind plug? I have read there is a aluminum crush and/or rubber gasket.
I still can't find green dipstick to check despite looking at where it is supposed to be online. I don't want to drain and get screwed if gasket can't be reused. I have the
-Genuine SAAB 93160393 AT fluid 4 quarts to drain and fill and extra metal plug just in case. I know it will be only about a 50% change, but wanted to check the condition of the fluid before doing multiple flushes. I bought aSAAB Transmission Plug O-Ring (Auto Trans.) - Genuine SAAB 90007873 from euro parts but not right size and no idea what it is for as I was told that was the right part from eEuroparts. Any help with that gasket? Also, anything else I should be checking?

Thanks,
Tim

Hey Tim,

The AF40 transmission in your 09 Aero V6 XWD 6Spd AT uses an aluminum crush washer on the plug for checking the level which seats in an o-ring.

Then other misc stuff:

The whole breakdown with all these parts is here: https://www.esaabparts.com/viewparts.php?searchpart=1&section=541121833

I'd also recommend doing all the XWD fluids and the gasket/filter on the rear differential (Gasket/Filter Kit: https://www.esaabparts.com/saab/parts/20986573)

I have a 2009 9-3 XWD. Will the same parts work in the 9-5 aero you posted? I actually had my differential fluid and filter changed at 40,000 after I had a leak in my transfer case (fluid change too). I did not change the TTD which I never heard from the mechanic that was possible. I cleaned the throttle as well at 60K.
I believe my plug is this:

and the O-ring:

I was unable to find the crush washer if the above are the right parts.

See post #2. Parts 1-4 are used to check and drain the transmission fluid.

Remove the battery and battery tray (LHD).
Remove the fill plug on top of the transmission.

Per the WIS to check the fluid level:
Warm the transmission fluid
Remove level plug #2
Let the fluid drain until it reaches the top of part #3
Add fluid until it starts draining out of the level hole.

Per the WIS to drain the fluid:
Warm the transmission fluid
Remove level plug #2
Remove part #3 and all the fluid drains out
Replace part#3
Refill with transmission fluid (approx 3K) until it runs out the level hole
Replace level plug #3.

Replace the fill plug on top of the transmission.
Replace the battery and battery tray (LHD).

If you don't already have the WIS you might download it because of the figures.

Thanks

Ok Thanks Guys. It makes sense. I think I was looking at the 5 speed stuff on you tube with the 15/16" drain plug. This makes sense now. Does Saab/people still recommend doing this twice to flush more fluid out? The more I read, the more people say to flush every 30K due to lack of filter. So basically about 6 L and below:

Warm the transmission fluid 80 F
Remove level plug #2
Remove part #3 and all the fluid drains out
Replace part#3
Refill with transmission fluid (approx 3K) until it runs out the level hole
Replace level plug #3.

Replace the fill plug on top of the transmission.
Replace the battery and battery tray (LHD).
