Is it possible to start the car andnot lose connectivity to the tech 2?
It seems that some of the functions require "start engine".
Thanks

I'll give it shot...although I always run my ELM327 in there and it always work? Anyways I've been looking for the Security access threads and found your GlobalTIS install. I have the software downloaded and I took a Dell D510 out of mothball from work;ol; Will try the security access thing tonight if I have time, for sure by Friday the latest.Check terminals 4 and 16 with a multimeter - maybe you have a damaged wire or a blown fuse... found that on a C5 I tried to Tech 2 a month or so ago.![]()
I installed the LM2596 with the transistor and resistors on mine a while ago and it is still resetting. I set it to 5 volts. I am using the power from the obd2 port and i guess i should plug the tech2 into the cigarette lighter plug and try that. My car battery was fully charged and i even tried hooking my lithium jump starter to it. I wonder if i will need a REC10-1205S/H2/M.I purchased one of these to gain full access to all sensor outputs on an 08 CTS, particularly the camshaft angles during cold start. I was aware that reboots under the circumstance were a problem and had encountered the Mornsun regulator upgrade recommendation before purchase. I have performed it and the problem was solved.
For those who are still dealing with it, and or don't want to tamper with the unit, the work around is this; An extra battery, I have both a car battery and a small 12 v amp/hr battery. Having read the instructions for the clone I discovered it needs a good ground to the car meaning use of the cigarette lighter for power at the Candi module plug connection, is preferred and in some cases required for successful data viewing. With that in mind I simply connected a good ground wire between the car and the negative terminal of the auxiliary battery powering the unit and succeeded at starting the car without the clone unit rebooting so that I could record the cam angles beginning before startup.
I joined the forum to share that info. Considering I have an Actron Scan Tool that cost more than the clone but can only do about 10% of what the clone does, it was a great buy.
On a different but similar note, I recently started having trouble linking my Actron to my 07 Nissan Versa, I forgot the code which I think started with a "U" and referenced a PCM failure to link up. I also noticed that the ALDL plug might have some connections issues as some times the unit did not power up when plugged in. When I plugged the unit into the cigarette lighter I was able to link up with the vehicle so the lighter socket is something to keep in mind.
I have also read that it is not a good idea to power up the clone with the Candi module attached, but not plugged into a vehicle as someone attributed a module failure to that although I did not save the thread to verify.
Not sure if that's entirely true about ODB prioritizing. I had power via included adapter directly to battery and worked off of that uninterrupted when unplugging from odb2 to PC for security access and back again.Yes and no. I bought an OBDII extension cable, intercepted the +12v, and inserted the buck-boost converter in the middle. Works perfectly. It was discussed elsewhere on the forum, but I'm not sure where.
The problem with the plan I outlined above is that the Tech 2 prioritizes power from the OBDII port, so if there's power there it ignores all other sources. So, you either gotta cut power from the port entirely, or use it as the source.
