greetings,
its been some time since i have offered posts here on the site --- but
its not because of the lack of effort to my own 900 . . . . actually, i have
accomplished a lot in the last 2 years. it seems this site has gotten
so damn good at the solutions side of our SAAB 900 issues, i am able
to do a search & activate my own success.
UNTIL NOW.
and i need & dutifully request some much needed help.
background:
original clutch & SC combo bites the dust.
i get the car home.
research & find Matthew's compulsory write up. excellent source. thanks Matthew.
buy new Swed Dynamics Sachs 250hp rated clutch
buy new ScanTech SC
buy new "something" MC
rolling forward:
installation of all the above goes well. (thanks again Matthew et. al.)
as time goes by - main reservoir begins to lose fluid
top off & continue.
finally i take action -
1st Change:
replace clapped out (but new) Master Cylinder with Local (O'Reilly Auto Parts)
master cylinder.
installed & hit the clutch pedal -- it goes to floor with a "pop" from
Slave Cyl. area . . . .
Point of Discovery:
extracting clutch/sl cyl unit - dissecting the SC & i find the sheared Oring
in the ScanTech unit.
Researching SAABCentral finds many purchasers of Scantech SC are unhappy
with its LT performance.
Moving Forward Again:
purchase Sachs SC -- this is a very nicely machined product.
install
drive car & on short highway testing -- clutch pedal hits the floor
get the car home -- extract clutch/SC unit
dissecting the Sachs unit finds the same predicament with the Oring
as the Scantech unit.
Moving Forward Again:
deciding to make quick fix of the SC predicament & to keep a SC as a model
for future design efforts (read as making my own sleeves for Imperial Orings)
i purchase a SC locally & xfer new oring to the Sachs unit.
install.
test drive today --- take to a local mechanic to have coolant system
pressure tested & a changing of fluid --- the mechanic reports to me
the clutch pedal is going to the floor.
just got the car home & into the garage. haven't pulled the system
yet --- but i can see it dripping fluid under the transmission cross member.
i know its the main sleeve Oring that has sheared.
so this is a pic of the Sachs SC sheared Oring -
and here is a pic of the Scantech SC sheared Oring --
Root Cause Analysis or Request for Brainstorm -
the Swedish Dynamics clutch is brand new. no reports of manufacturing
mistakes i can find . . . seems a very high quality unit. my feeling, there
is nothing wrong with this variable . . . . (?)
separating the SC components before install & lubricating clearances
& orings with clean brake fluid.
bleeding the SC i built a power pressure bleeder to operate thru the
main reservoir with no more than 7psi of pressure pushing the
new fluid thru the hydraulic system.
the only variable i have questioned is the new master cylinder ---
its suppose to be for a 900, but what if it isn't . . . . .
when i drive this car --- its inspiring
when i work on it; its complete satisfaction
but while its broke --- its numbing . . . . .
thanks for your consideration & efforts to my appeal
