Hey everyone. I searched and read many posts on this forum about "rear light failure", tried a bunch of things that were suggested, but no luck.
I've got a 2004 9-5 Arc sedan. I need help figuring out what’s wrong with my parking lights on the right hand side. First, the orange front right corner light went out along with the small parking light in the headlight assembly (the tiny bulb). Then it sort of came back, was going in and out and flickering. Thought it was a ground issue, but I checked the ground/earth point behind the right hand headlight and it was fine. Then, the right hand taillight also went out and SID says “Rear light failure”. Now both front and back parking lights are not working. I checked all the bulbs and fuses, all good. Last summer, I replaced ALL the bulbs front and back with OEM Philips (no mods such as LED whatsoever). Everything worked for months. The only other lighting related issue I had was with high beams. I replaced the orange relay lamp control and that fixed it. I have halogen headlights, not xenon.
It looks to me like a ground issue, but the front and rear right turn signal, and rear brake light are fine (same dual filament bulbs, but different circuits and they use the same ground points). My guess is that if it was a ground issue, none of the bulbs would work, not even the brake lights.
I know the bulbs are good because I took the bulb assembly and connected it to the left side, it worked fine. I also tried swapping the light switch, same issue. For testing purposes, I tried my old orange relay, no change. I disconnected the harness going to the trunk lid to rule out a possible short as it's a common issue, that didn't help.
I checked the connector pins with a multimeter, there is no current on the blue wire to the taillight, same thing on the wire to the front parking light. There is power on the red/green wire going into the fuse box and blue wire coming out of the fuse box and going to the TWICE module. Looking at the wiring diagram in my Haynes repair manual, the next step is to check pins 46 and 68 of the TWICE module (blue wires). That would require looking under the driver's seat, which isn't easy as I park on the street, it's not easy to remove the driver's seat and work when it's cold and snowy. Any advice before I start digging under the seat and look at the TWICE? This has been going on since December (for 3 or 4 months), but I don't drive much. I'm tempted to run a wire from the left bulb connection to the right to light up the right hand taillight, but I'm not sure that's a great idea.
Thanks!
