Couldn't find any threads specific to this problem.
The coolant level in the expansion tank is low when the engine (and coolant) is hot (not over temp per dash gauge). It is low enough to set the SID low coolant warning.
When the cap is loosened to allow the pressure to slowly release, the level rises to the cold level.
Being paranoid I checked for oil in the coolant, and coolant in the oil. Both negative and oil level remains on the mark. The temp gauge shows normal operating temps.
I have a theory, but would like to hear from others about cause and effect (what if any possible dire consequences).
