Ever have your interior warning chime (ding dong) ring for no reason?

Mine rang 2 days ago. No SID warning was displayed (not a burned bulb or an open trunk). Today it happened again.

What will I say if I have guest in the car? Any jokes?

In my experience, every problem I've had with this car or a previous Saab, many others had the same problem (shift knob loose in this car, sagging headliner/ early water pump failure / cracked dash in an old Saab). Has the chime ring for no apparent reason in anybody else's car?

try this..

Press the ESP button to turn ESP off when you put the key in ON mode

Start the car, and see if you can the warning DING.

I heard about this problem with my friend, the sid checks and the started it, and it made a DING DONG (SID warning ring) he coudlnt replicate it after a few days later.. WHERE I CAUGHT IT RIGHT AFTER!!!! the Traction control showing it was disengaged (ESP FAILURE) on the main dash panel (Below the speedometer) FOR like one second and it went to normal after the ring

I told him to turn it off everytime he starts his car...

NO DING DONG warning after.. He turns it on after the car is started.. no warining about his ESP going out or anything.. no error on sid.

More replies welcomed!

Thank you for the replies.

The key in the ignition problem: that's not the problem with my car, but an interesting post.

The speed warning: that's not the problem as I adjusted it to a higher speed when the car was new. Good suggestion.

ESP: Come to think of it, the ESP chimes (I think?) when it activates. I don't think it was the case the two times it rang without explanation. There is a curve with slippery pavement that I know will reliably cause the ESP to activate if I drive a certain speed!

I had it happen on my 04 9-3ss just after it had been raining.

I drove for about 20 mins with it constantly chiming but nothing on the SID or dash.

Eventually it did flash (for about 1 second) drivers door open.

It wasn't open, I opened and closed it many times but it kept on chiming.

The next day it had cleared, and it has been fine ever since.

There is no simple plunger, it is a housed unit inside the door panel so I nover even got a chance to have a good look.

UPDATE

ITS NOT THE ESP doing the DING DONG.

i found out whats ding dong on my friends car..

On the left controls under the tach is a numerous lights for Check engine.

when he started his car, the red light, oil pressure light blinked, followed by a ding dong.

but it wasnt a message on the sid.

check the oil.. it looked fine... Possible sensor on the go?

Other than those regular stuff that was mentioned,

The first time the bells chimed without any warning light or messages... within the week, Gearbox Malfunction came on, that started the Gearbox thingy over the next 3 months where it finally did lock up in 2nd and 5th and then 2 speed sensor had to be replaced, ATF changed...etc.

It comes on in the morning when the car starts, without even moving off or engaging D gear.

Recently mine had drive shaft bearing issues, and before that, the chimes started coming in about 2-3 weeks on and off before the bearings gave out.

It was driving me nuts cause I have no clue what was happening, and even after I found out, I still have no clue how come the drive shaft would trigger off the chimes. For the gearbox, I can understand due to the 100 over sensors for it. Drive shaft? geez..

I had a random ding ding the other day... I think I have had that happen several times in the 4 years of ownership. I did not have any warning lights or messages on the SID. I just chalked it up as a SAAB standard feature :)

The ringing is tell you it loves you?

Or perhaps its telling you, that it wants a big hug.

After months of not happening, it happened again. Originally, it happened about 3 times about more than 6 months ago.

Ding dong with no fault.

Temperature 20C (68F), not raining, rang after driving around 200m (600 ft). No warning lights stayed on after start up except for the usual 5 seconds or so. Speed warning has been set to a high speed (about 100 mph) years ago. Parking brake not on. Just ding dong.

Any hints? The warranty is over in about 11 months. I prefer not to bring in the car if there is no fixable problem because they may make it worse or just take things apart and introduce rattles.

this migh sound a bit silly....but please check your battery connections to be properly tighten up.

even the slightest movement of the connection can cause electrical stability issues so the most sensitive sensors may start to ''ding-dong'' sometimes:cheesy:

my experience was just the above when i hadnt tighten up securely the connections and did a long trip.;oops:

ok noobie here

I've had my 05 9-3 for about a week now, and this doorbell noise would happen every time I'd go over a bump. Seemed like there was something loose.

Turns out, my trunk was not latched, but because I have a bike rack on there, it didn't actually bounce open. I closed the trunk, and tadaaa! no more ding-dong.....I guess that makes me the ding-dong for not checking it sooner ;oops:

I think I figured mine out. Washer Fluid being so close to triggering the low washer fluid warning, that bumps, and slight inclines will make the ding dong go off, but then the liquid moves back to an accepted level so quickly that the actual SID warning never comes up.
