its like there's grease on the windscreen all the time. when it rains the wipers smear quite badly. i have replaced the blades, first with bosch but they actually started leaving rubber on the screen, then with original (no idea who makes them) SAAB parts. still the same problem. its quite bad - and of course mainly the area exactly at eye level !!

it looks like the blades don't 'flip' on the downside sweep. they don't drag and make the d-d-d-d-d noise, they just smear.....years ago i remember there were triple blade units available - i was thinking this might solve the problem but i don't remember who made them.

despite cleaning for grease, replacing blades and rain-x (none of which make much difference), does anyone have any ideas how to fix it or has anyone had similar problems? it happens at all speeds so even adding a wiper with a spoiler didn't do much.......

I use stuff called 20/20 which works well to remove smears and gunk off the windshield. They come in green bottles and are cheap. I either drip a few drips directly onto the windshield while the wipers are going, or add some into the washer fluid tank.

This is due to the arm being bent in the wrong position. Get a adjustable spanner and use it to bend the arm until the blade of the wiper turns over on each stroke.
