You can't just tighten it. The lever is held in place in it's active position by a spring loaded pawl and detect mechanism inside. It is possible to take it apart and rework it so it's like new. Or get another good used one. Did take all the pics for refurbing this but never got around to writing it. The first pic below shows the housing with the two detents each side which keep the lever in position. You need to rework these deeper with a small file or dremel because the edge of the detent gets rounded off. The ones in the pic have been done. The second pic shows the spring loaded pawl. Remove the soft metal rivets on the case with a sharp knife. Do not drill. Reassemble with some superglue on the rivet shafts to hold it together.
