ugh, this car is just falling apart now
her car has been getting harder and harder to start in the mornings...
and when it does fire it comes on like a diesel at first... a big clunk as it finally turns over.

I think I was confusing the plugs for her 2.3t with the plugs I had in my Aero (which were about $10 EACH)
so, no, her plugs are probably wicked old

Even the aero works just fine on the standard plugs ;)

But lets not start the "anti platinum" debate........

oh, I don't mean to start any debate... but am I wrong in thinking that I paid $10/ea for some special 'Aero' plugs 3 or 4 years ago?

The list of possible suspects is long (fuel pump, temp sensor, MAF, DIC, CPS). Might try turning the ignition on an wait a few seconds before starting. Pump could be weak and need to prime first. My Aero on 2 occasions did not start right away. Ever since waiting a few seconds with ignition on it has not done it since, in over 12K miles.

If it runs fine when started I would rule out MAF and possibly DIC. My guess is fuel pump or CPS.

No you are correct, the platinum ones are expensive.
