Hi guys, the turbo on my 2001 aero has developed a whining noise over the last few days, the noise disappears after about 5 mins of driving & i haven't noticed any drop in performance. Anyone have any ideas what the cause could be? Many thanks

It may not be the turbocharger, check your vacuum lines and when you start the vehicle.. open the hood and take a listen to see if your serpentine belt is squeaking.

I have seen cases where the power steering pump itself would make a high pitch sound in the higher rpm's.

If it is turbo noise you are hearing, you may have a leak on the intake side of the turbo. Check the clamps on the pipes from airbox to turbo, and the clips holding the filter in the airbox.

Thanks for reply, i was kinda hoping it might have been the belts or pulleys myself, but think i've had it confirmed as the turbo, rushed into a local saab specialist on the way home, & he went straight to turbo grabed a pipe underneath which stopped the noise, & said it could be the boost pressure control valve, what ever that is? he seemed to know his stuff & said he could get 1 & fit it for £80 but i have always avoided going there in the past, because for want of a better way to describe the place, it's a ****hole, any thoughts or advise much appreciated
