Mobil 0-40

My 2002 9-5 has 138,000 mi on it. Most are all highway miles at 6hr drives. I recently had the oil pan pulled so the screen could be cleaned. The pan looked brand new inside. Anyway, I am scared of the sludging.

Most recently the serpentine belt went and it burned with black smoke. Thought it was an electrical fire at first.

For some reason after replacing the belt, the car's turbo kicks in faster. Maybe they tightened something while doing the work. Cost $190 for labor and materials including a new pulley.

Happy so far.

Before we do this all over again ...

Can I please suggest the OP do a search and read through some of the dozens of threads and hundreds of posts on the topic?
I also can't believe the number of times that these basic questions keep getting rehashed; confession - I was guilty when I first joined.

Have the members considered doing one sticky on this topic in the frequently asked questions section? Allow it to be added to by anyone who wants to debate whether dyno juice is better than synthetic, or why Amsoil is as good as anything else. Then when a fresh question is asked, we all need to be disciplined and just point the person to the sticky without running a new debate. That way there is only one place to search.

The same could go with separate stickies for transmission or power steering fluid or whatever.

On the other hand, if the fun is in constantly repeating the posts ad-nauseum, then post away.

Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful resource with some very knowledgeable people sharing a love of these cars.
