How big of a torque wrench will i need? I noticed that plenty are absolutly huge and dont seem like they would fit anywhere for torqueing. Theres a good sized one for sale but it is from 1-100ft/lbs . will i ever need to torque anything over 100ft./lbs or should i look for somethign with a wider range? thanks a lot!

You will need multiple torque wrenches regardless. Unless you do suspension work, I cannot think of anything for which you would need anything above 100.

I faced the same question last week. I bought the one that goes up to 100 b/c it would be good for head bolts, which is what I had in mind.

is there a specific job you are looking to perform julian?

I'm sure you already know, but the clicker kind are better than the fan, IMO.

For the serious DIY, a 3/8" and a 1/2" drive are in order, and if you do precision work on say an auto-trans valve body, then the 1/4" is the one..Torque wrenches are most accurate when used in the middle of the scale. I think a quality fan type and clicker type should be equally as accurate...

And they should be calibrated every so often, not cheap, IMO..
