Tried seaching, but as you can imagine "dealer oil" gets a lot of hits.

I'm going in for my final free oil change. Just curious what kind of oil the dealer uses. I assume it's not Mobil 1.....
Ask them. They'll tell you. They're generally pretty good about it.

It will probably be a "name" syn repackaged under a different brand.

My niece's dealer uses a synthetic blend. I'm not sure what mine uses and I'm almost due for my first free oil change at around 10k miles. I will certainly ask. I've already changed it twice: 2k and 7k miles (5k intervals).

If your going to change at 5K just use a Dino for half the price, 5K is real early for M1 0W40.

You do this all the time, what part don't you understand, in the US and other markets, the M1 5W30 does not meet the GM LL A or B 025 Spec that is recommended for the 2.0t/T SS...

This from the Label:
Satisfies API SM, API SL/CF, ACEA A1/B1, ACEA A5/B5 and ILSAC GF-4 service requirements; exceeds warranty requirements for gasoline and turbocharged engines in GM 6094M, Chrysler MS-6395 and Ford WSS-M2C929-A applications

see anything about GM LL A 025 there? It meets the Spec in Europe, but not here because it is not the same Oil.

The manufacturer, not the local Saab dealer,Jiffylube, etc, specifies the correct oil to use in our cars.......read your Owner's Manual/Service Manual and make sure the dealer uses the right oil.Once again....if you live in North America, and intend using the oil life monitoring system, the oil must meet the GM LL A 025 specification, the most common being Mobil 1 Syn 0W40.

I love it--jdl always chimes in and I think he forgets where he is sometimes:p

And any reputable dealer is going to use and stock M1 0W40. It's one of the few oils that meets the GM LL 025 spec. This is especially important for the 03-05' MY if you want to follow the oil life monitor algorithm.
06' and up I don't think it's such as big deal if you change at 10,000 mi. or less. Most good synthetics should be ok.

I'm not sure how many miles it's been, but I have 3% left on the oil life monitor. The weird thing is the "time for service" mesage never came on like it did last time. I had to manually check how much oil life I had left.
