Well today was my first day drag racing my saab. So my first launch I dumped the clutch at what i though was a conservative 2-3k, and had crazy wheel hop. From then on i had some smoother launches w/out reving high but still spinning a tad in first. However, I feel that my car is absolutly not doing what it can. It just doesnt seem to be boosting right. It hardly goes into red in 3rd and 4th and it just doesnt seem to pulll hard at the top end at all. I have an mbc+a, saab sport exhaust, intake mod w/ k&n on my 99 9-3 se hot. Here were my disapointing stats, and these were the best out of my 3 runs.

R/T: .280
60: 2.701
330: 7.064
1/8: 10.556
MPH: 70.78
1000: 13.524
1/4: 16.037
MPH: 88.33

So what can I do to get these times down and speeds up?! I want to believe that I am leaking boost somewhere because I cant hit fuel cut even w/ wastegate actuator unplugged. But I just cant seem to find where. Ther was an incident w/ something small falling down my intake, maybe I should take the turbo off and have a look.

WOW. that is surprisely bad. no offense or anything. but i thought a stock 9-3 SE HOT would run about 15.5. maybe i was way off, or you do have some major boost leaking or something. maybe since it was your first time, that is way the time is bad. i've seen some people shave off a second or more on the fifth day from the first day. i guess, do a check to see if there is a problem, otherwize, keeping running. R/T looks good, though.
by the way, my brother's civic with the GSR motor in it (i believe b18) with a few mods, pushing around 200hp ran around a 15.5 or something like that with a 95?? mph, i think.

julian does your car boost nicely in first and then suddenly have sporatic boost hesitation?

Sporatic Boost Hesitation is the best way i can describe my problem.

I totally feel that my car isnt running the best it can right now.

The other day I disconnected my negative and positive terminal to the battery yesterday for 10 minutes and closed the anticipator (mbc+a) to try and reset everything. The car is running better now but there are still some spurts of boost hesitation at WOT!

I really dont have the time or energy to take everything back to stock and put things back one at a time but it looks like im gonna have to one of these weekends. Sometimes i drive with a big smile on my face and sometimes i drive with my windows up hiding behind my tint, this is getting ridiculous.

I think my car could be a beast as soon as i get it tuned right!
I think im going Nordic stg 3 next week also, hope that helps!

Try disconnecting your battery terminals and see if that helps.......

Ya, I know my 60 time wasnt the best. I have goodyear f1s, they are 205s, so they arent bad tires. Should I run a low psi? I tried dumping the clutch and got rediculous wheel hop, and when i went easy on it my other 2 runs I wasnt spinning them too bad, but they were spinning in first gear. But the turbo seems to hit until 4k rpm, then it just seems to have no balls up to 6k where I shift again.

Ah, I must sort this problem out! It is driving me nuts, I cant make a bad name for saabs at my local strip! ;) Im determined to track down the problem and I am going to the first test and tune I can when I am back from school!

Come to think of it, there is a good purpose for torque steer. When I first put on my mbc+a i didnt have it adjusted in all the way, and the torque steer was frightening. Now its in all the way and I hardly get it, only when theres a good breif hit from the turbo, not consistantly. How hard is it for me to take off the turbo for inspection?

i wouldnt bother checkin your car, i would practice more at the track first, the gauge on the car means absolutely nothing at all. u need a real gauge
Then what should I launch at to make that much of a drastic difference? I don't want to waste money at the track when I know the car isnt boosting like it should be. It won't hit fuel cut even when disconnected from the wga.

What kind of object fell into down your intake, and/or did you remove it before again starting the car? I don't want to be the first to ask, but could it be an impeller problem? It might be worth taking off (at least) the pre-turbo intake piping to see what condition the impeller is in. A stock 9-3 (t25) is supposed to run 15.5 if I'm not mistaken.

I had a hard time seeing down the turbo by removing only the pre turbo piping. I might try to take the entire thing off today. In the back of my mind I am kind of hoping my problem is the turbo so I can get a td04 :cheesy:

they dont boost 15.5 psi, when u launch the car u should slip the clutch out just enough that u dont burn the clutch and so u dont overspin the tires, it is a learned ability from experience and practice, not something that is taught really.

all this coming from a guy that currently owns an auto:roll:

Oh wow, did you decide to throw sand down there?!?!!

It does look like its time for a new turbo...or atleast upgrade that to a t28

Thats one of the worst Ive seen on a daily street driver

a peice of plastic and a bolt went down in there. what exactly is a t28, why not a td04?

Let's hope that whatever chopped up those blades got trapped inside your IC.
You need to take the IC off and thoroughly clean it or the bits of metal and whatnot might migrate into the engine, then.....

But if you're getting a new turbo, you're probably looking at a new IC anyway.

Actually it was just a peice of plastic after I inspected what used to be my plug, the bolt stayed on the plug. Just curious, why would I need a new IC, I have the HOT model? I don't plan on sinking a ton of money into mods, but since my turbo is done i figured why not get the td04 and a 3"dp and eventually an ecu. Is it time consuming to take off the front bumper and then ic? I asked some time ago what happened to the peice that fell into my turbo and some said it could have come out the exhaust.

Well not to get off topic but thats a debate in itself but the t28 has the same housing as the t25 uses but different compressor/turbine wheels search for it as tweek has done this and Jak Stall offers it off his web site

So is it easier to install? How about performance comparisson to the td04?
