Just curious, as I saw my wastegate actuator arm is threaded (adjustable), if I could loosen it enough that I could bypass the stock boost-level controller, since MBCs suck hardcore and I can't afford an electronic boost controller. Anyone tried messing with it?

What is your qualm with MBCs? Overboost or lack of response? What if that could be handled and eliminated, you still think that they would suck? Since you have a 99 you can get the MBC+A which eliminates the overboost that is common with other MBCs. Ok for the wastgate, it has been talked about but it has been settled that the MBC is a far simpler way to raise boost pressure.

It's just that, after time the MBC "de-tunes" itself... This happened the other day and I started running 0.4-0.5 bar instead of 1.0 like normal. I was running under the same conditions as when I set the MBC... It just seemed that adjusting the wastegate actuator would be a more stable form of overboosting.

I don't feel like paying x amount of dollars for an MBC+A when I know the parts cost less than $20 (made an MBC for $10). Anyone know the +A parts list?

first of all you would want to tighten your waste gate rod to up the pressure. and as for adjusting the rod to set your pressure, yeah it would work and would not have the over boosting problem that a MBC has, but it would be harder to adjust and would still have the varying pressure with temp problem. also i dont know if you would be able to crank up a stock warse gate to 15psi.

Don't do it.

If you loosen it, you'll get less boost and boost creep whereby the wastegate opens all by itself due to exhaust pressure and not because of inlet pressure.

If you tighten it you'll get more boost.....But it will be too much when you rev because the gate can't open far enough. Also it confuses the ECU and it gets a bit unstable.
