I research and found that some of you guys said that the key can be left in ON position before crank just to get fuel up to the engine and get things going. Didn't work...maybe had a negligible effect *slightly better*.

I also tried topping the gas off..but in the morning it's still bad.

The first start of the morning, it sort of stumbles to life. It wants to die again, but doesn't. Anyone know what this might be? I almost thought I had a bad battery. Thanks guys.

Rick, I got your voice mail, but it was too late..I needed a sway so badly.

On the plus side, I ordered the rotors and pads from Eeuro so maybe we can get together this week.

They should be here tomorrow.

Hey, if you find out if it's the MAF, lemme know because it's just annoying.. After the first morning start she's all fine and dandy..

You also might want to consider one of the temperature sensors. I read somewhere about a sensor that measures the temperature and adjusts the ecu to the current conditions. If your problems only occur when the engines cold, maybe the ecu doesn't know its a cold start and doesn't adjust the fuel/air mixture properly? Just a thought....best of luck!

Sounds like a disease that only targets the B235r.... Luckily these cars are rare and many are stored in garages... Outbreaks are often easily contained.

Sorry to hear about you guys having hard start problems. Mine started hard once or twice this month, but they were all with low fuel, and no problems with full tank.

I had a theory about hard starting when I first got my Viggen, that leaving the key in the on position allowed the fuel pump to get working before cranking. But it really didnt help, and I've since found out that modern cars maintain pretty good fuel pressure even when off for this reason anyways.

Of course, soon after I discovered that my buddy completely destroyed my engine, so I stopped worrying about hard start...

Keep us posted if you find out the cause though guys.

Where is the temp sensor located and anyone got a part #?
91 77 213, '96 on
Located on the inlet manifold
The test will show less and less resistance as the engine warms.
The Ohms start at several thousand and decrease to 100 or so.
The numbers are in the H. manual

BUT !! Hold on, I do not know for certain if this is the gage sensor or the one governing the engine electronics..
Haynes is vague, as is the parts book.
Avixcore, has your battery been professionally checked ??
And how about the spark plugs ?
And the fuel filter ?
Do the service work as necessary
Diagnose
Repair or replace
In that order

I think you are correct, at least on the 900SET. The one you listed is used to control the engine. If that one goes open circuit on the 900SET, I believe the idle is ridiculously high or goes up and down if intermittent.

The one on the side close to the top radiator hose is the coolant gauge sensor, according to all I have read. Electrically they are similar, variable resistance according to temperature.

The intake air temp sensor is different, on the 900SET it is mounted on the elbow above the throttle body. Not sure where it is on a Viggen.

Hey lets bring back a dead thread - my vig is having the same issues as here - and the thread sadly lacks an answer....I will keep looking....but if anyone found out what the problem was I would love to know.

Well it will sit there and crank and crank - stumbe then die, then more cranking eventually start, then run rough - then settle in though if you hit the gas it would die. BTW this is even with turning the key to on and letting the pump build a couple times before cranking.

I did a few things though this weekend - removed air temp sensor and cleaned that with carb cleaner, replaced spark plugs - found ones in there were platinums - which surprised me as I hate them. But with enough cars you forget. And then I removed the manifold pressure sensor and cleaned that. Finally I did the vacuum hose bypass setup with new silicon hoses.

Car now starts well - BUT I get manifold pressure sensor CEL - both low and high. Apparently THAT part you cannot clean with carb cleaner ;)

So it is starting....but I am going to let it sit a couple days and see what it does.
