I have 2006 9-5 4 cylinder wagon

I need to replace my valve cover gasket as it's leaking quite a bit.
I heard someone said to also buy tube of silicone gasket maker
but I've watched a couple videos on youtube and nowhere did they mention using such silicone or used it at all.

so my question is, is this gasket maker necessary?
thanks!

No gasket maker is necessary, but you do need to use something to keep the two gaskets in place while you flip the valve cover over and get it in place. I smear some plumber's grease in the groove every few inches, and that always works great. Others use the same anerobic sealant used on the oil pan, and some use pieces of dental floss stretched across the bottom of the valve cover, which you can then pull out once it's in place.

I used the actual rubber gasket of course, then petroleum jelly, but what the heck would droop always so used dental floss in the long length places and Hey Presto! Both them was the bomb
