Hi everyone,

Just got the new car back from the garage - it was the maroon V6. After a full service, new brake discs, new oil, coolant, wiper fluids etc etc the "Check Engine" light decided to come on. They are just a local garage so dont have the equipment to read the ECU, so are calling someone in. In the meantime im driving the car around and it seems fine, so any idea what could have caused this? Its only came on after they had finished all the work they were planning to do.

Also what is the normal Idle for the engine? Mine seems to be on 1000rpm exactly all the time, which seems a bit high to me? Also the fan seems to always come on after I have switched the engine off, is this normal?

Sorry to re-ignite the V6 debate but I must say the performance is all you could ask for - pulls all the way to the redline. Though I guess maybe its a British thing as most cars here have 1.3 - 1.6 engines.

Thanks for any advice.

Vince,

Not sure how an oil change, wiper fluids, coolant flush, etc could cause the check engine light to come on. The manual indicates this is a fuel injection or ignition problem and often illuminates before any noticable degrade occurs.

My V6 idles around 800-900 so 1000 may be a bit high. My cooling fan almost always runs after I turn off the car for a few seconds unless it is really cold.

I wish I had a turbo only from the standpoint of the boost and "fun" involved. As for reliabilty, nearly all of my problems have been with things having nothing to do with the engine per se.

They've done a full service yes? including sparkplugs? this involves the removal of the inlet manifold, your local garage may have left something unplugged.

Usually the check engine will come on for something that will potentially damage the engine [insufficient coolant or oil] or something detrimental to emissions, you can read some of the fualt codes yourself instructions on Munki's site if you get nowhere with those basics, unplug the ecu [pull its fuse] or disconnect the battery for over 1 hour, the forces the ecu to reboot itself.

Debate?
No one ever said the V6 was slow, by any means.
:cheesy:
They just require a little more loving care then the V4's do. I think that's the only thing we've really debated about!

Oh dear 3 V6 problems on 1 page....

Maybe we should start a V6 emotional support group!

Anyway I have reset the ECU on mine and it seems to drive fine now with the "Check Engine" light not coming on.

Thanks guys!
