Urgently need a rear caliper

Was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. My mechanic has my 08' SS Aero up on the lift and he's saying my driver's side rear caliper is completely seized and needs to be replaced. He ordered one from his parts guy, but despite measuring and confirming the rotor diameter (292mm) before he ordered, the caliper doesn't fit. My chassis rear brake code is BB, so it should take 292mm vented rotors. Not sure why his part didn't fit, could it be that the calipers for the XWD cars are different than those for the Aeros, even though they're both 292mm rotors?

Anyhow, this 9-3 is my daily driver and I need to start driving it back into work ASAP - I'm trying to find a compatible caliper I can order overnighted to have in the shop on Monday, preferably one that's not over $300, so probably a remanufactured. Does anyone have any suggested vendors / manufacturer part numbers? RockAuto has a NUGEON 2209132L caliper that says it's for cars with 302mm or 314mm front rotors ( ̶t̶h̶u̶s̶ ̶1̶6̶"̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶e̶l̶s̶,̶ ̶t̶h̶u̶s̶ ̶2̶9̶2̶m̶m̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶r̶o̶t̶o̶r̶s̶), but they can't get it to me until tuesday. Does the Centric 141.38522 fit?

Thanks in advance for anybody that might be able to help me clear this up.

(Edit for future readers: I've since learned that 16" wheels does not at all mean you necessarily have 292mm rear rotors.)

Hello Ronnie,
Lets say you are following me on the third problem i had. Long story short, couldn't find a rebuilt caliber for my 08 Aero, i was sent the caliber for the non-vented rotors three times. Spoke with Cardone about this, they don't list different casting for vented or non-vented rotors. I was unable to get the correct one, tho they do offer a rebuilding service if you send it in to them.
There was one rebuilding shops on Long Island that knew of the different sized calibers and had the correct one for me, but wouldn't sell directly to me, even if i drove to them to pick it up.

I finally ended up ordering a new ATE brand (OEM) for about 145.00. There are a couple of places that show them in stock, not sure how quick you would be able to get it.

Don’t really like the europarts catalog, I used the OEM part number to find it. I purchased the one I needed from RMeuropean tho they are not showing stock on this one. good luck and keep us updated.

Why not get a rebuild kit from Rock Auto? Super easy to rebuild a caliper...
I only saw one kit on rock auto for the rear. Not sure if that kit would work on the caliber (wider) for the Aero or not
If someone can confirm, this would be helpful going forward.

Just went through with the same problem last Nov when my 2006 9-3 Aero rear passenger side caliper seized, ordered 1 from Advance Auto, make sure it is for 292mm rotor but it won't fit, I cannot rotate the piston further back to fit rotor and pads, I thought it was a defective caliper so have them ordered another one, still the same problem, then I realized the caliper is not for vented rotor so the jaw of the caliper is not wide enough, then I went to Auto Zone and ordered the correct one, came next day and I installed without issue. Calipers are all reman ones from Advance Auto and Auto Zone though. I was thinking buying some caliper rebuild kit but at the time I need to pass state safety inspection so I just went with the reman one from Auto Zone.

A good thought, but the car is with my mechanic and I don't think they'd be willing to rebuild the caliper (they're not a specialized brake shop), nor do I think I could get the kit by Monday. My goal is to get the car back on the road ASAP (it's my daily driver), but I will be looking over my other calipers when I get the car back, and if the seals don't look great, I will rebuild on my own at my leisure, yes.

I found an '09 2.0L at a nearby junkyard with stock 17" wheels, these rear calipers should definitely fit my Aero, as the rears are the same as long as you have 16"+ wheels (and non-XWD), correct? The junkyard does not have a photo of the chassis code plate, and I won't be able to check out the donor car in person.

Edit: discovered after perusing many junkyard listings, some of them showing the chassis vin plate, that it's possible for a car to have 16"+ wheels and still not have 292mm rotors.

Have you tried this? Advance Auto Parts - Down for Maintenance

Part # 19-B2927A

OE part # is 93172184
One of the two calipers my mechanic tried had part number 19-B2927A, and it didn't work, so I don't think that one's the right one.

Is the mechanic a Saab specialist?
He's not, no. I was about to tell you that the nearest Saab specialist was like 45 minutes from me, but I just did a search again to double check that was true, and it turns out there's somebody I missed like 10 minutes away from me! So thanks for helping me find a new mechanic (after I sort this issue out with my current guy)

Thank you both for the suggestions!

My 2004 with the vented rear discs needed both rear calipers. The shop sent them out to a rebuilder, who fixed them upt in a day for $100 each. According to the shop (who do lots of Saabs) this is both the usual problem and their usual approach to getting it fixed with these rear calipers.

Is the mechanic a Saab specialist?

Walkinator, you're positive you have 292mm vented rear rotors? Not all Aeros do, weirdly enough (I've been doing a lot of research today). You have code "BB" in your door jamb chassis plate (3rd spot from right)?

This might be a lifesaver, I could pick it up tomorrow from the store!

Of course I am positive, I just replaced rear rotors/pads and rear right side caliper because it was seized, I ordered 292mm vented rotors, compared with old rotors and they are the same diameter, like I said before, initially I ordered 292mm caliper with part#19-B2926B which is actually for 287mm non-vented rotor and it didn't fit because vented rotor is much thicker than non-vented rotor so the jaw of caliper the vented rotor need to be wider, later I got it from Autozone, part# 19-B2912 that fit perfectly to the 292mm vented rotor.

One thing I am not sure is that when I set my car as 2008 Aero on Autozone website, and search part# 19-B2913 (which is for left caliper), it tells me it does not fit 2008 Aero so I am not sure it will fit your car. My suggestion is to order one from Autozone and have your mechanics try on you car, worst case you can return it to Autozone.

Ok thank you, I'm sorry, forgot about your early reply with your experience. I am thinking that the fit checker on Autozone (and many other parts websites) are just plain wrong when it comes to 9-3 brake systems, so I'm going to go ahead and get that Duralast Bracketed Brake Caliper 19-B2913 . If it fit the 292mm vented rotors on your '06, there's no reason it shouldn't fit 292mm vented rotors on an '08. Thanks again.

I am sure it will fit 292mm vented rotor, what I am not sure is that the caliper mounting bracket might not fit your 2008 wheel hub, the distance between the 2 screw holes on the 2006 caliper mounting bracket might not be the same as 2 holes on the wheel hub, but again, it is worth of trying. Let us know if it fits so we know they are interchangeable.

They make rebuild kits for calipers that are about $12..... and its an easy job to rebuild them. Unless there is some crazy stuff in the caliper because its a newer model...You should be able to order the rebuild kit from any auto parts supply place like auto zone etc.....Remove it from the car, soak it in some trans fluid for about a day so it will "unseize", clean it up real good, rebuild, reinstall, stop happy again

Looks like $6 instead of $12, I know how we all hate to save money LOL

Picked up the Duralast reman caliper today from Autozone that Walkinator recommended. Came with the piston, new washers & bolt, as well as the carrier bracket & slide pins. I wanted to measure the jaw width (I know the vented rotors are 20mm thick) but I think I would need to do that with pads in place, which I don't have on hand.

Fingers crossed, we'll see what my mechanic says tomorrow.

I know you've all been waiting on the edge of your seats...Duralast Bracketed Brake Caliper 19-B2913 from autozone fit perfectly over my 292mm vented rear driver's side rotor!

Thank you to everyone for the advice / suggestions, but special thanks to TheWalkinator for recommending something I was able to pick up next day from the store across town, for only about $100!
