OWWWWWW, my freakin ears! The deep reverberations actually hurt. Though I have proved my theory that you can't make a Saab sound bad. This thing did sound totally badass. And when you put your foot in it you could feel a pretty strong vibration,........through the seat. And when you let your foot off the gas you could hear little pops as it after fired a little. Though I must say that it was too loud for even the youngest members here. I'm 20 and it was too much, and I used to drive a wrangler so I'm used to loud noise. Maybe with an actual straight pipe to the back of the car it wouldn't be so bad, as it was it was dumping the exhaust right abouts where the ignition is.

Everyone should try this once, and that's the only time you'll do it. Unfornately there was NO performance gain, the turbo did not spool any quicker. If you want more performance, look further up the exhaust system.

That said I'm going to take two advil and start saving my pennies for a cat-back exhaust.

The Trionic system is designed such that you will see no performance gain from ANY mod, unless it is accompanied by an ECU mod.

As far as cat-backs go, I have this one, and I like the exhaust note a lot:

It is a Saab aftermarket part, designed for Saab by Remus. The link above on genuinesaab.com has it for $450 which is $50 cheaper than the official Saab retail price.

It comes with a straight pipe that eliminates the forward muffler, so you only have the rear muffler. It's louder and more agressive than the stock system without being overwhelming.

It looks great on the car in my opinion :p

(unfortunately this blurry pic is the only one I have with it on the car, and it doesnt help much)

If you are in the area I'd be happy to sound demo it for you :p

Is the tip the only difference between that one and the rounded tip on genuine saab? I wouldn't think so since its over 100 dollar difference...

Also, how big is the piping on the exhaust all the way from the turbo? Is it 2.5" the whole way??

They are indeed the identical ssystems except for the tip. The reason the round one is soo much cheaper is probably because Saab is stuck with a bunch of them, as the oval ones are much more popular.

Here is the Saab retail page for comparison

They are not 2.5" at all, actually.. They are slightly smaller at 2.25", all the way from the cat back. The downpipe and cat would remain the same, unless you also get a cat & downpipe upgrade.

As I understand, the elimination of the front muffler and the redesign of the rear muffler reduce backpressure comparably to the 2.5" BSR system though.

Is the rounded oval tip the same design as the stock one, cause I rather like the look of it. In the picture it looks kinda....circlular?

No, they call it a rounded oval tip, but it looks like this...

Oh well, I'll probably buy it anyway. The rectangular tip looks nicer, but not $125 nicer, to me anyway.

Yeah Raven I think i agree with you. I like the oval one, but its $125 dollars more... wow. Im pretty sure they would sound identical
I would probably do the same, but back when I bought mine they were the same price...

Damn, I wish they were still... Were they both the $340 or $450?
back then they were both $550 in the Saab Catalog, and $450 on Genuinesaab :p

I seem to remember a thread not so long ago about people who have done a number of performance mods without an ecu upgrade and even published dyno sheets..

Actually I dont agree with your statement

I have that remus exhaust with the "rounded oval tip." It does not look as circular as in the picture Raven posted. It is exactly as it is described, a rounded oval. It looks closer to the stock shape than the flat oval tip.

That being said, everyone should take Raven's advice and unbolt the cat back and crank their car. It's a mean sounding engine! :cheesy: And you still hear those pops after you take your foot off the gas with the remus exhaust, by the way.

Sweeeeeeeet. :cheesy: Everyone really does need to try this once, it's neat even if it does hurt.

But my seat-of-the-pants meter has told me that the cat-back doesn't make you go faster.

I'm going to try and post a sound clip later, though I'm having trouble getting it onto my computer for unknown reasons.

But is the seat of your pants properly calibrated? :cheesy:

Hmm. Thats odd.. Cause the thought that the trionic system prohibited performance enhancements is all that I have heard ever since I've had one...

Do you recall what the dyno charts looked like?

Maybe the trionic systyem only governs the peak numbers, and they were able to widen the torque curve, leaving th epeak torque in the same place...

I cant remember it to clearly, but the T7 will calculate the required air mass for any given throttle (Fuel demand) If an over demand is requested, ie it cant supply enough air mass for the request (boost), it will adjust the request the next time for a more optimal one. By changing the intake and delivery pipe the ecu can take advantage of this by meeting higher air mass requests.

It was something like that anyway. :)

We have audio

https://home.comcast.net/~gedavids/OpenExhaust.mp3

Unfornately the mic didn't pickup the deep bass reverberation that was causing other cars on the road to dump their tranny fuild. If you don't think the idle is loud, you don't have the volume high enough. :cheesy:
