My 97 900SE is beginning to show signs that the turbo may not be around very much longer. I know it costs an arm and a leg to get it replaced by a mechanic so I started to look into how hard it would be to do myself (with some help). I am by no means a mechanic, but I do know my around a vehicle to some degree. It looks as though it is only bolts and pipes to disconnect and reconnect....am i wrong? I would appreciate any light on this idea, if anyone has experience changing one out, let me know if I should give it a shot or leave it to the pros

I would not tackle this job without an air hammer and quality air tools.

Use about three days of PB Blaster or a CRC or Seafoam..

May even need an acetylene torch..

Be ready for several hours of hard work...Have at least some of the new hardware, if not all...

There is a bit of risk to doing it yourself, but it can be done. The upshot of the ease of replacement is you should be able to find a competent mechanic who will do it fairly cheap.
