When my turbo begins to kick in on my 2000 Aero, the engine emits a "pinging" noise similar to running lo-octane fuel and consequently is bogging down. I've always run with hi-octane fuel and have tried different brands with the same results. It seems something is telling the engine to retard or even over-advance the ignition timing. Does anyone have an idea on this one?

check the basics, then maybe look deeper... start with things like the plugs and when was the fuel filter last changed? Then maybe think about checking/replacing the DI or the MAF. Any codes? Might be worth finding someone with an OBDII scanner to check things out.

At least for me, it was time to replace my spark plugs. Had the same with my 2000 Aero Wagon.

I bet you are not running NGK BCPR6ES plugs ( or yours are way bad as slbenz and Cark has stated) and you have messed with the ION sensing in th DI to detect anc retard knock...

Better get it sorted straight away, these engiens blow up quickly when lean
