Hi I have a 2003 9-5 wagon that has an annoying issue
If you put your foot down hard , when it kicks down you lose half the turbo boost which stays like that until you stop the car then it has normal boost
If you drive it with a gentle foot it has normal boost and will go as fast as you want but try to overtake hard and it’s a pain
Any ideas?

No engine light
Car runs fine unless as I said you put your foot into it
Happens more when going up hills
Does happen on the flat but only if you kick it down when overtaking

Check hoses to and from intercooler.

Could be the Turbo Boost bypass valve hanging open when it opens quickly

I did replace the valve but no joy
Did read about the intercooler yesterday so I’ll have check it out and also the cat

Are you blowing the waste gate open? Sounds like a weak actuator getting overpowered at WOT.

I think the actuator is new , well it looks clean
I’ve only had the car for a couple of months
Wasn’t really driving much for a month and it wasn’t until it was on the open road that I picked it up , should of given it a better test . Anyway by the looks of it someone has been hunting the problem, I’m thinking it’s going to be something simple once I nail it 😁
We only really have one specialist mechanics here in the state , they used to be the dealership for Saab but they are really expensive so sort of hoping I can deal with it before I have to send it there

I’ll swap the cassette check the cooler this weekend and see what happens

Disconnect the actuator rod from the wastegate and see if you have any play in wastegate arm and the flapper. If you have any play then you’re going to have boost issues, specially spooling up issues

I just somehow get the feeling it is a spark plug or DIC issue- the car is sensing a potential knock and is retarding the ignition.. my 2 cents

I swapped over a dic last night from one of the 9-3’s but haven’t driven it yet,I’ll put new plugs in and try it

No just drive it with the replacement DIC otherwise you wont know if it's one or the other.

The DIC should be SEM or Genuine Saab brand And maybe things are different across the pond but here in the states, a 9-3 does not use a DIC so I’m confused that you are using something from the 9-3, they are completely different engines

T7 9-3's use the same DIC as 9-5's.
