I've been wanting a different turbo for over a year but the stock T3 worked fine so I didnt spend any money. Well it's smoking a bit and I've realized that I should probably move the power delivery higher up to take advantage of my JSP fuel chip and try to preserve the gearbox.

So... what would be a good option?

I'm 99% certain I could change one out myself. So something that would fit the stock location would be nice.

I've heard of T3/60's, Super 60's, T3/T4.... what's the difference?

Anyone know any reputable dealers? Personal experiences?

FWIW- I've tried using the "search" function several times over the last hour and there is no response, except for a blank white page....

Is it only Garrett or Mitsubishi turbos that fit a c900.

There are many turbo manufacturers and it would be interestion to see what else fits.

you can fit any type of turbo by the T3 is bolt on, no adaptors.

I recommend a TDO5h, I have one but the compressor is unbalanced so it needs a new wheel+rebuild..

You want a turbo that can flow 400 or 500cfm?

I'm realizing that I'm gonna need more help with this than I first imagined.

When one says "T3 style flange" is that what the DP bolts onto, or is that the style where the manifold bolts to the turbo?


When you say cfm you mean flow? I dont even know what I'd want. I'm not really shooting for a high HP number, but rather something that will compliment what I've already done to my car. Maybe 250ish HP, but not until a bit higher up in the RPM range.

Well the c900 exhaust manifold uses a t3 style flange, so if you find a turbo that use's the t3 style flange it should more or less bolt on. Sometimes you might have to do a little clocking or get some different coolant and oil lines to make it work.

I have always liked the t3 60/.63 for a c900. You got to wait a little longer for it to hit full boost but once it does it pulls awesome. One more thing you might want to think about thrashing the stock swingvalve and getting one from a ford, or maybe an atp ultimate, or even better is an external wastegate.

That's not so much the ford wastegate that people speak of

MUCH MUCH better flow than stock, It's off a Ford thunderbird or mustang turbo....I was going to use it, BUT I went with another option, PM me if you want it, free for the taking, Just give me money for shipping

Ok, so the Saab T3 uses a Ford style swinggate housing with a crappy elbow?

B5S- I know you have a custom turbo, right? What did you go with? I suppose I'd want something similar.

Yes sir I do and am currently very happy with it...

This is how the turbo started out... then it ingested something after about 2 months use and 'Sploded! So I sent it back and had it rebuilt, and upgraded with watercooling and stagger gap oil seals, and in the process they put a larger compressor wheel in it, in theory it should support upwards of 450hp...

Right now I have the stock wastegate and elbow on it but within the next week I will go with this.....:

what made you go with that particular turbo instead of, say, a t3 60? were looking for later power delivery? I'm learning the terms.. a/r, trim, inducer/exducer, etc... as i go, so bear with me.

Cost, most power, and yes later and smoother power delivery, car really opens up around 4k RPMS, and is easy on the gear box, and gives you just as much power up top as it does down bottom...If I stomp it in 1st gear at about 3k and just keep my foot in it, and shift around 6K it will just keep pulling all the way to 140 mph.....:cool:

Hey breakin, Did you use the .48 A/R exhaust or the .63 A/R? I'm asking because I noticed that on blaast's website they say there .63 has 7 bolts. I have never heard of a t3 turbine housing with a 7 bolt outlet.

the .48 the center cartridge and the exhaust side of things are identical to stock, which simplifies installation tremendously

So my next question would be what type of connector would be welded to the DP to connect to that swing gate? Is it called a v-band flange?

I'll probably be ordering the turbo that you showed earlier in this thread... just gotta get a liiiiiiitle bit more $$ (plus rent and all that crap is due soon)

Yes, it is called a V band flange, if you decide to go with the atp ultimate you would need to weld one on your downpipe and then clamp the two together. I think the size is 3 inches.

In looking at the v-band flanges on the ATP site, it doesnt look like they would mate up with the swinggate housing.

Its the one on the left. What type of flange would be needed for that?
