Steve,

I don't believe the exchange will work, but I could be wrong. 1989 will have the 2.0l engine, whereas 1993 has the 2.3l. Although, I think the difference in compression is achieved by a longer stroke, so perhaps the block is the same? I do know the 2.3l 1994+ block will not fit an earlier transmission. Most everwhere I have seen a transmission for sale for 1993, they always say 1991-1993, so... that leads me to believe 1986-1990 aren't compatible.

I believe the 2.3 is square whereas the 2.0 is undersquare. I think the bores are the same. However, the 2.3 has balance shafts so the blocks are definitely different.

The trannies changed also. I believe the manual and automatics are different for the larger and later engines.

Thanks all for your reply, and Aaron I am not sure if I will need a tray yet. I just purchased a 92 and 93 9000 to try and put something together for my son. The 92 has a crappie body but runs and the 93 has the good body but there is something wrong with the fuel supply system. I live down in Tacoma so it is good to hear form a relatively local Saab owner. I am presently looking for a fuel pump and a left head light for the 93. Do you have any parts for sale?

Hi sp53, nice to see another local! I get down to Tacoma every once in a while. Unfortunately, I don't have any spare parts for sale. Good luck with your part search.
