I was going to go look at a 98 cse auto this coming weekend. The car is pretty clean but there is one issue with the car. Basically on cold morning when the car is in drive it's very sluggish as if it was in say 3rd gear instead of 1st starting off. You can manually put the car in first and then second and then drive and the car is fine. Its only when you leave it in drive on cold morning. Is the tranny completely shot or could it be repaired without replacing the entire thing.

If the trannie is fine when manually selecting gears, it's very likely that the problem is in the governor. Can be fixed with the transmission in the car, no big job. Try a search on governor seals.
