This is probably a stupid newbie question, but where is the transmission dipstick located on the 2.8 V6? I've searched both the owner's manual and under the hood, but can't find any trace of it! TIA

I think they are sealed units, and you can't add fluid. At least that was what I was told with my '03.

I stopped by the dealer today and asked the service tech about the location of the transmission dipstick. Apparently it is only accessible from underneath the car. There is a short green dipstick, located near the starter motor. It is secured with a 10 mm nut. I guess the next time I have the car up on a lift I will check the fluid level.

Newer cars should tell you when fluid levels are low. The Mercedes Benz system doesn't even have an oil dipstick in their cars. It is a completely self-enclosed system.
