Hi, new member here.
I have a 91 900 stick with the 2.1 motor but the gearbox is shot. I also have two parts cars with good 5 speed trannys. One is a 86 900 turbo and the other is a 88 900 turbo. Will either one of those trannismissions mount up to a 2.1 engin? I have replaced a tranny in a 84 turbo a few years back so I can do the job.
Thanks for the help.

We need more Tennesseans!

Yes, the transmissions should bolt up. However, the primary ratios may be different.

This write-up is for an auto-to-5-speed swap, but it should be a good reminder for you:

I've lost the link for the matrix showing the gear ratios and the primary ratios for C900 transmissions by year and model, but I'm sure that someone (Jezz?) has it...

Johnny-on-the-spot as always, Jeeves! (er, Jezz) ;) ;)

Therefore, the '88 would be a very close match in ratios, and the '86 would give you a slightly taller final drive ratio -- slightly better for highway cruising, slightly slower acceleration (theoretically).

Personally, they're both a very close match -- I'd put in the one that's in the best shape.

Where in Tennessee are you?
