It'll work. The tranny is weaker, but almost identical.
There are some difference between the gearbox from a viggen - stock.

* Viggen Drive shafts are rougher (cant use the ones for the 900)
* Gearbox on the 900 box will need the viggen rear mount (cant use the one for the 900)
* Gear linkage (cant use the one for the 900)
* The clutch on a viggen is hydraulic, but 94-97 ng900 is not. I'd suggest you rebuild, but you can keep the wire if you like.
* Viggen middle axle, with support bearing (cant use the ones for the 900)
* Wheel bearings (cant use the ones for the 900)
* On ng900 94-96 the front struts are different from 97-98 and og9-3. (This wont give you any trouble tho)

But, the viggen box is better than the 900.. I wouldn't change it.

Good luck, let us know if you run into any problems

Finding a 2.3 from a 9000 aero would be a better and more cost effective option.
how much work is there to swap that motor in?
what do you do with the ecu? is the 2.3 tranny going to fit in aswell?
