I have a 99 LPT with around 90k. Due to some MAJOR smoke from the exhaust I pulled the turbo last night. Sure enough, it's in pretty bad shape. The bearings are shot and the shaft has a lot of play. The impeller on the intake side is chewed up pretty bad. I've been trying to find a rebuilt GT17, but would also like to investigate other options. I've seen a few people here have used the Abbott GT17 upgraded unit and a few have used TD04's. The Abbott unit sounds nice, but is it readily available in the US? How much are they? The regular GT17 is around $550 after the core charge is refunded.

Ended up finding the rebuilt GT17 locally for about $500. Couldn't pass that price up. She's in and running fine thus far. Not to difficult actually. I'd do it again without hesitation.
