I am stuck in the process of replacing timing chain components on my 99 9-5 2.4T 129,000 miles. Been hearing noises under the cam cover, not pulleys or ps. just replaced alternator. Previously replaced all the pulley bearings. The tensioner is at 15mm. Engine in car. Everything has gone smoothly thus far. Chain under cam cover looks intact with worn guides. Not planning to pull the oil pan.

Am have difficulty sliding engine to driver's side. Have removed serp, pulleys, alt, ps, wp, ac, exhaust, pass and driver engine mounts. Engine supported by floor jack. No amount of lifting or lowering changes things. I left the rear engine mount in place, but removed the nut/washer--it has some play in it. Haven't removed pass cv shaft yet--that's next. Have tried to use Saab tire jack on head with wood blocks to move it over, but it simply won't budge. Anything I'm missing to make it slide?

I did my homework researching this, have all the parts, and will succeed if the engine will slide. At this point, I am considering pulling engine. Any recommendations for pulling engine w/o tranny?

For the rear mount, remove the part that bolts to the mount. Three bolts into the gearbox. That should give you the play you need. The engine and trans have to come out as a unit, there is not enough room to separate and pull the engine only.
