I think it'll fit, but I'm not 100% sure as there are some model year oddities, so someone with an '88 would know better.

However, if the only problem you have is a grinding noise when going into 2nd, it is completely insane to replace the transmission. Change the oil, which never does any harm, but it won't fix it. Wait until the tranny breaks (it will sooner or later), then get second gear synchro repaired (because that's what it is).

In the meantime, learn to double declutch and get your speed down before changing down. You have to nurse the gearboxes on these cars a bit, saving boost for 3rd and 4th. Two-second gearchanges and match the revs if changing down. I drove a 190 bhp C900 with a broken second gear synchro for two and a half years, and only got it fixed when I stripped 4th gear.
