Hey guys,

I did the USB mod recently. Had some issues just later with Tech2 like not reading cards and CLKMEM FAIL but now everything works.
Reads codes from car and extracted VIN to Tech2 using SPS function for security access.

But I can't get it to communicate with my PC. Running XP with SP4 on VMWare and using GlobalTIS.
UART shows PASS in POST check and connection shows as USB Serial Port in COM1. Does this mean the mod worked? Can someone confirm?
COM ports match in GlobalTIS and device manager with 115200 baud rate.

What am I missing?

Why not try TIS2000?

I noticed that GlobalTIS has v146. The card in my Tech2 was v148. Does that affect communication with the PC in any way?

When I connect the USB to the laptop, it reads up as a COM port. Set to COMPORT1.

On the Globaltis the software was hacked in time around 2009 so that was the version included at the time for download through the server.
Wont make any difference........

We were getting FAIL in RS232 Loopback test and UART Fail in POST check earlier. So we went ahead with the mod. UART shows PASS now.

Anyway to pin down if it's a hardware or software issue?

I also need the 32mb padded version of 44.000 but the links here are dead:
Don't know if you still need this since you asked about it several months ago, but I have the bin files (including the V44 padded) on my server:


It will ask for a login, "SAAB" is the user name and "download" is the password, case-sensitive. (Filenames are self-explanatory. I have used the 32MB V44 file and the V148 files and they appear to work OK. Have not tested the others.)

I wound up buying a Mongoose Pro GM 2 interface that I run with Tech2Win. I had also tried a less expensive interface, the VXDIAG VCX NANO that should be able to work but seems to have communications issues with the NG Saab 9-3. Still messing with it occasionally to see if issues have been addressed by manufacturer. The Mongoose Pro GM 2 is solid in every way albeit expensive.

Hi all - long time lurker.
I'm about to buy this clone Tech-2 tinyurl.com/y2w43sfh

Can you good people please confirm this will do all the functions on my NG 2003 9-3 please (specifically replacing the CIM)?

Yes it will but watch out for import duties and taxes even though the seller is supposedly UK based it will almost certainly be shipped direct from China.
I bought one at Xmas as a backup to the one I already had and it got stuck in customs and it never arrived...at least I was refunded via Ebay.
You will also (almost certainly)need a suitable laptop configured with TIS2000 or Globaltis to obtain the security access needed to make the module changes.
Make sure any donor CIM is either brand new or if used comes with its original paired key.
Let us know how you get on!

Good point on the tax - I'll try and find a UK supplier.
I noticed some of them come with a Candi interface - do I need this on the SAAB?

You will pay a fair bit more..or gamble on it getting through!
Yes you need the Candi for an NG 9-3 only early OG 9-3/9-5 can manage wthout.
