I am starting to realize that I am going to have to rewire the entire engine bay of my new to me 93 Saab 900 Turbo. I was just wondering if there is any logical reason that someone would splice in new wires to the MAF harness?

How terrible would it be to install an entire 'new' engine harness? Would I have to run everything from the inside? Honestly trying to figure out how I am going to approach this.

One reason I think people used to do this is to fool the MAF to (dangerously) bypass the max flow ratings built into the ECM. If so, you can probably undo that easily.

Replacing the entire engine harness is not a big deal - a couple hours of work if you move quick. An afternoon if you have a six pack that won't save til tomorrow.

The engine harnesses on the later cars are quite durable, I think they are rarely saved. If you find someone breaking a car, they'll probably have the harness available.

While it's off the car, you might hit up Prancing Moose etc. to replace damaged connectors and boots. (Prancing Moose isn't cheap, but Dave has everything nicely organized in one place)
