There already seems to be a lot of interest generating in the new Saab 9-2 due in the Spring of 2004. We thought it was a good time to start a new Forum for this brand new Saab model to be discussed.

I for one would like to learn more about it, so anyone out there has any more information on this new and exciting Saab based on the Subaru WRX platform please share it with the rest of us. It promises to be an interesting addition to the Saab model range...

yes that is indeed true.

9-2 will be a Saabified Impreza wagon.

HP ratings:

9-2 = ~165 hp 2.5l F-4
9-2 Aero = ~227 hp 2.0l turbo F-4

5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic choices. Aero may be limited to standard transmission.

I could post the already well known purple sketches of the 9-2 but I think everybody here has seen them too many times. www.saab.com

the first-gen 9-2 will be very similar to the Subaru, however the next-generation version, to come out in 2007-8 will be far more saabified, since it was designed to be a Saab from the outset (while using some of Subaru's excellent powertrain components)

You could argue that fact about most new Saabs GM have produced since they took over.

Personally from having driven a Subaru WRX on several occasions, I think it potentially could be a fantastic car. I'm saving my pennies already :cheesy:

If it drives likes a Subaru WRX and has the finesse of a Saab I reckon it is going to be huge seller. Lets wait and see what the finished product looks like and drives like before we start slating it.

Well, if you ask me, I think the GM900/9-3 and the 9-5 look a lot more Saab-like than say a 9000, or even worse, that Saab-Lancia thing...

My only question re: the 9-2 is the price. Where I am, the 9-3 Linear starts at 34,500$ MSRP. A Subaru WRX has a MSRP of ~$36,000 here. So, tacking on some more onto that for the Saab grille and trimmings, will we see the 9-2 Aero costing more than a 9-3 Aero?

I would say the 9-2 Aero will probably cost more than the 9-3 Linear only, just like the 9-3 Aero costs more than the 9-5 Linear.

i think sweden accepted the 9-2 and 9-7X b/c that gives them more money to release their projects

and then they can do their own things

i don't believe sweden would allow GM to ruin the whole brand. i truly believe in ten years the bleeding will stop and saab will unfortunately be a powerhouse performer and become xtremely popular.

but saab has to put out these pop cars to soak up the 1/2 billion they've been losing every year

You got a look at the good side..
Subaru = tons of aftermarket parts..
so, by the time 9-2 arrives there will be many upgrade parts ready :p
Also, 9-2 will have a SAAB badge on..not Subaru..

Pic from Car & Driver

This image is in this month's Car & Driver, so I am pretty sure it is real. It looks nice from this view, but I want to see how the have changed the rest of the car.

It would be nice to have it look like the pics, I'm not really a fan of hatches. But the sketches make it look pretty agressive. I know the front will be nice because of the Saab fascia but I don't know how much they can clean up the ugly rear of WRX wagon.

GM is nursing Saab now? What transpired for the past 12
years? Nothing, GM is retarded. The world's largest
automaker can't handle a boutique carmaker. These are the
same people who have no talent to engineer a modern engine.
Unlike GM, the competitors have embraced the 21st century.
Saab is in the pits because of GM's apathy, had Saab been
given more resources to establish a portfolio of cars like
their competition I & others wouldn't be complaining or
looking elsewhere. So GM wants the 9-2(Subaru w/Saab grille)
to cater young people, what they should do is decontent the
9-3, offer a 2 door version & boost the Hp/torque ratings,
instead of trying to be a BMW clone.
I predict more Saabs will be sold & GMs rebadging will be
validated. What Saabs stood for will be replaced by a
facade.

Does anyone know when it's supposed to first appear in auto shows? Here in Salt Lake City we have this kind of b*stardized auto show, which is just like one giant dealership (except you can't buy cars there): every company just brings in 5-10 cars they're selling for people to sit in and look at. Maybe 3 concept cars overall.. Hopefully the 9-2 will be there tho.. I don't think I can truly judge it until I've seen an actual car, rather than just pictures/drawing.. Just my opinion..

New Merc R class on sale late 2005

Auto Trader said:
This is first look at Mercedes-Benz's new R-class MPV, which arrives in showrooms late in 2005.

Built on the platform of the next-generation M-class 4x4, the R-class has six individual seats and a flexible interior layout. Mercedes says the car blends the lines of a saloon with the practicality of an estate and the ruggedness of a 4x4.

Production versions should differ little from the Grand Sport Tourer design study seen here, although the backward-opening rear passenger doors will be replaced by conventionally hinged designs, and its full-length panoramic glass sunroof won't be fitted.

Mercedes has yet to confirm which engines will be offered in the R-class, although it should get a range of six- and eight-cylinder petrol units. Permanent four-wheel drive, air suspension and a seven-speed automatic gearbox are likely to feature.

The R will also have a host of innovations including new accident prevention systems which constantly monitor the driver and alert them if they are wandering out of lane.
