Every time I check gearbox oil the plug is stuck. I use a long extension and six-point socket. It's ridiculous to have to pull so hard to get it to break loose. I keep anti-sieze on it too.

Now the nut starting to get rounded off and it's really stuck this time.

  • What's the solution to getting it out? (I know I can drain from diff cover, but how to get fluid back inside?)
  • Why doe this happen?!?
  • Are there sources for replacement plugs with the little dipstick?
Thanks,

Use a wrench or a very short extension.
Thanks, and Yep, the long extension bends and twists for sure. I will try with a wrench if it's not too rounded now. I heated it and put on PB a couple of times and walked away for now....

If you don't have an impact wrench, use a box wrench and tap it with a hammer. Be sure you aren't overtightening it... It doesn't require a lot of force to install.

I got it off with a screw/bolt extractor socket, extension, and an electric impact wrench. I think I will just leave it like this, with the socket stuck onto it, until I get a replacement.
