A couple of days ago I replaced a leaking coolant bypass valve. Ever since then I immediately noticed that the car temp gauge is reading below the normal middle range that it always reads. Its been hovering around the 8 o'clock range instead of the normal 9 o'clock. Every so often it will creep up to the normal temp and then go back down! Coolant level has been constant.

I suspect a faulty thermostat since it is original (102,000 miles) but it seems funny that my problem happened immediately after I changed the valve.

I would appreciate any other ideas or comments!

It is is the original t-stat, replace it anyways.

This sounds very normal, and it the exact same on my car.

You do not want the car to run too cool, this will give you poor economy; however, you do not want it to run too hot. You also do not want the temperature taking huge swings, that is very bad.

Sounds good to me. Coolant level fine?
