I have noticed a bit of play in the steering lately, I just inspected it, and the lower u joint in the steering shaft is quite loose. It looks like it will be a MAJOR PITA to replace.
I looked at Eeuroparts, and the list a new shaft for... $352.00! is it possable to just replace the U-joint? how much of a job is this?
I wish I had looked a this when I had the engine and transmission out for the pinion bearing replacement...
Thanks,

No sweat.
Get a used shaft
Remove the lower cinch bolt
Remove knee pad
Remove the upper cinch bolt
Get some help if you need it, or work very slowly and carefully to remove the upper steering column assembly bolts while leaving all electrics etc. attached.
You can only move the upper column an inch or so; that's enough.
Immobilize the steering wheel with a Bungee cord to avoid damaging the clockspring if you have one.

So, I guess the plan will be to look for a used one. What is the best lubricant to use on the u joints? I don't want to do this job again..., and I just can't justify $352.00 for a new one.
